The guys had been ecstatic with the news of us officially being together. The fan responses were... mixed. Some people called us OTP, others were very clearly jealous. For the most part, they were all funny. The only time I really cared was when there were certain people who thought they knew me and felt like they could comment on my character when they knew nothing about me. I brushed it off though and just enjoyed our weekend on and off together.
I was more excited about going into work Monday than usual. I liked work plenty, but being able to have the time with my boyfriend rather than just acting like friends was a plus. We obviously wouldn't be all over each other, but a hello kiss, being able to hold hands coming in and out of the office.. just the little things.
I always beat him to work, someone who liked to be early. "First day at work with the new boyfriend," Keith commented in a singsong voice as he came in.
I felt my cheeks get hot, even if I knew it was coming. "Yep. It'll be fun."
"You know, after you two get settled, we should do an episode of Ship it with you two," Ned said.
I nodded. "Sure, sounds fun. But so help me God, if you make me dress him, I will murder you," I warned him.
"Why are you going to murder Ned?" I heard the voice I recognized well, glancing back to see Eugene had just gotten to work. "Morning," he added, leaning down to kiss me.
"Morning," I murmured, beaming up at him before returning to the question. "Ned wants us to do an episode of Ship It eventually, and I said if he made me dress you, I'd kill him," I explained.
He laughed softly and shook his head. "Don't want to try to dress me?"
"You are definitely the more fashionable one of this relationship. There's nothing better I could put you in that would make you look better," I pointed out.
He smirked playfully and winked before going to sit down.
As expected, there wasn't a whole lot of difference, especially since the week started a strict deadline for one of the major productions Eugene had to do once a month. It meant he was extra busy, so I let him do his own thing.
On Wednesday, I got a text as I was getting ready for work. It was Eugene offering to come by and drive me to work today. We didn't live terribly far from each other, and I was sort of on his way to work, so it made sense, and I agreed. A little bit of extra time with him during a busy week was nice. I finished getting ready and went out to meet him.
"Hey, beautiful," he greeted, leaning over to kiss me.
"Hey," I grinned, kissing him back.
"Figured you wouldn't object to a few minutes of extra time together," he commented as he pulled out to head towards the office.
"Definitely won't complain," I answered.
"I do have to shoot today so won't be in the office much, I'll just come find you when it's time to get home," he warned me, mostly out of courtesy.
"I know, you're my little busy bee," I teased, leaning over to kiss his cheek.
An evil look crossed his face, and he smirked. "Oh, so don't want to say what just came to my mind..." he muttered.
I rose my brow at him. "Now I'm curious."
He kept a smirk on his lips. "Just think about the fact you called me a bee, and I call you honeybun."
I thought about it for a minute before wrinkling my nose when I realized his mind being in the gutter. "Eugene!" I cried.
"...Too easy," he muttered. I reached over and smacked his shoulder playfully. "Ooh baby," he teased, winking over at me.
"I want to say you're a handful, but I know that will backfire on me," I said. Almost said it would come back to bite me in the ass, but I knew that would go dirty too.
He smirked over at me and just stayed quiet, pulling into a parking spot. We got out and headed inside. "I've got to go to the studio, so I'll see you later," he said, giving me a quick kiss before heading off.
"Did you spend the night with him last night?" Chantel asked as I sat down. She was pretty much as in the loop as the other guys. It wasn't a judgy question, just a curious one.
I shook my head. "He just decided to pick me up so we could carpool."
"Aw, that's sweet," she said.
"He definitely can be at times," I beamed.
Around lunchtime, we ended up getting a bunch of pizza to the office (free food being a frequent thing), and I went out to the studio to check on Eugene.
It was a way bigger set-up than usual and I could tell it would be a very artistic and creative video, them still working. I waited for the end of a shot, before going over to him. "There's free pizza in the office, babe," I told him.
He glanced over briefly from the camera he was checking. "I'm fine right now, thanks," he said. I could tell from his voice and demeanor that he was stressed and under pressure.
"Have you eaten?" I asked, wanting to make sure he wasn't going to wear himself out or push himself too much.
"Earlier," he answered, changing a lens out on the camera he was using.
"Eugene, try not to stress yourself out too much, you need to make time for yourself and health too," I said, not trying to push too hard, but just express concern.
"Look, I'm fine, I'm just really busy right now and can't have distractions, okay?" His tone was a little snappy, and it kinda took me aback. I knew he was freaking out a little, and definitely a perfectionist - which I understood from experience - but I wasn't used to him snapping at me.
"Alright," I said, holding my hands up and went to head back to work.
I hadn't seen him or heard from him since that incident, even as the normal workday was coming to a close. I tried to finish something I was working on as Chantel was packing up her stuff next to me.
"Is he not done with his shoot yet?" she asked, putting a couple of things in her purse.
I shrugged. "I haven't seen him since lunch, so I guess not," I answered.
"Do you want a ride home? Since he's working late, and that way you don't have to stick around and wait?" she offered.
I considered that for a minute, wondering if maybe I should try to check on him again or at least text him to see how much longer he thought he'd be, but then I thought about how I hadn't heard from him all day, and the snappy tone of him saying he couldn't have distractions popped into my head. I looked up at Chantel and nodded. "That'd be great, thanks."
It was nice to just be home and tried to get my mind off the work day, going to get a drink and find something relaxing to watch. Whatever I could do to numb the pang in my heart that I felt like Eugene and I just had our first fight.
--Back at the office--
Eugene finished the shoot a little later than he hoped and anticipated, going back to the office and saw a lot of people had cleared out but there were still a few people around. He looked for Y/N but wasn't to be found.
"Hey, Ned, have you seen Y/N?" he asked.
Ned thought about that for a second. "I think Chantel gave her a ride home," he answered.
Eugene was trying to figure out why she'd leave without telling him, or asking when he'd be done. It hit him like a ton of bricks, remembering more-or-less yelling at her during lunch.
"Fuck," he murmured.
