Looking Out

Party sat on the passenger's seat of the Trans Am and looked out the window as Ray was driving. In the backseat behind him was Kobra, right next to him was Ghoul, and between them was Agent.

The whole car was silent. Nobody talked or looked at each other. They stopped at a gas station and looked for anything that they could bring back to the killjoys back home. Ghoul took some smokes and looked for something he could get for Diamond.

Agent stood in the corner of the convinence store and looked through a few magazines. Ghoul kept his distance from Agent and every now and then, he would glance at him to look for any suspicious behavior.

All of them scavenged the convenience store, looking for anything that they thought would be useful, and once they got what they needed, they all got into the Trans Am and drove back home.

They drove in silence on their way home. In all the awkwardness, Ghoul managed to keep an eye on Agent. Man, he was one tough cookie... But so was Ghoul. In his peripheral vision, he could see every little movement that Agent made. He looked out for anything that was suspicious, but he couldn't find anything.

Once they reached their home, Ghoul hopped out of the car with all the things he found and walked inside, leaving the others behind. He looked for Diamond and found her in her room, drawing.

"Hey," he smiled as he looked at her.

"Hi," she started as she held her drawing up, "What do you think?"

It was an unfinished drawing of the Killjoys standing by the Trans am. It was amazing and quite accurate. The shading, the faces, the background, everything about it was amazing.

"Man," Ghoul gasped a bit, "you're very talented."

Diamond smiled, "Thank you, but I'm not nearly as talented as Party is."

"You may even be better than Party is, to be quite honest," Ghoul grinned, "but, hey, your style is completely different from his."

Diamond looked him in the eyes and gave him a big smile and went back to her work.

Ghoul smiled back then, sighed as he looked into Diamonds eyes. Every time he looked at them, he seemed to be entranced by the way it sparkled in the sun. Her big brown eyes gave him a sense of warmth in his heart. He could stare at them all day. He only felt this feeling one other time, when he saw Jamia's eyes. Diamond looked nothing like Jamia, but they had that little something that pulled Ghoul in, as if it were some gravitational pull.

As he got up to leave, Diamond grabbed his arm and stopped him.

"Hey," she started, "come back... Stay."

Ghoul turned around, almost relieved that she had asked him to stay. He sat down at the edge of her bed and looked up at her, "What's up?"

Diamond paced the room for a few seconds and smiled as she looked at him. Her gaze met his and she gave him a slight smile, "Listen, I know that you don't like Agent."

"And?"

"Well, can you just please give him a chance?" Diamond sighed, "he's an amazing guy and so are you... You two are very important to me and I just- I just want to see you two get along."

"Y'know, Diamond, I didn't want to tell you this, but I don't think Agent is who he says he is."

"What do you mean?" Diamond asked as her face grew sour.

Fun Ghoul looked at her calmly and tried to explain his theory. "I think that he can't be trusted. A few days ago I-"

Diamond's eyes widened in frustration and she had finally snapped. "Ghoul! I can't believe you. This is a load of bull and you know it! He's been with our group for like two weeks now. Don't you think if he was going to attack us, he would already? What's the matter with you? These passed few weeks you've been acting so weird, and now I know why. Can't you just be happy for me?"

"It's not like that, Diamond! It's not like I'm trying to separate you guys! I love you and you should now what kind of person Agent is. I'm just trying to protect you, you're the only thing I have that is close to a family. I do not want to lose you."

"You aren't going to lose me, Ghoul. I'm in good hands with Agent. I know you're jealous that I spend most of my time with him, but you can't just accuse him of being a bad guy! You've been against him since the minute you saw him! I can't believe you would even try to break us up in any way. I didn't want to believe Kobra, but he's right. You're just jealous of our relationship. News flash, Ghoul, I'm not your property. It's my life and I can do whatever the fuck I want with it."

"Fine, Diamond. If that's what you want, fine. But, don't come running back to me when you realize that that son-of-a-bitch is nothing but a fake. It's your life, do what the fuck you want. I tried to warn you. Now, I don't care what you do." Ghoul's eyes were wide and he was holding back tears. His face was red and it was burning underneath. He looked at Diamond with frustration, but a sliver of hope inside him begged for Diamond to let him stay.

"Leave." Diamond said calmly as she looked away from him.

Fun Ghoul stomped out the door and slammed it behind him. Then, he stormed into his room which was right next door and laid down on his bed. His face was hot and he felt tears streaming down his face. He had never had an argument like this with Diamond at all and he felt terrible. He felt as if tiny daggers were stabbing his heart, he felt his chest ache and he shut his eyes and curled up into a ball as he faced the wall opposite of the door. The whole time, he did his best to not make any noise.

Through the walls, he heard Diamond sobbing and her door opening. He heard Agent's voice as he tried to calm her down. He knew that on the other side, Diamond clung to Agent like a child would to a teddy bear and agent held her in his arms as he whispered sweet lies into her trusting ears. He knew that Agent was using Diamond and fury grew inside him. His tears of sorrow became tears of hate, and somehow, behind that wall, he felt as if Agent was taunting him. Unable to do anything, he punched the wall and laid on his bed. Hopelessly, Fun Ghoul just laid there and took in everything.

The morning after, Diamond refrained from looking at Ghoul and instead did her best to just focus on Agent and only Agent. Every time they made eye contact, Diamond stared daggers into Ghoul's heart until she looked away. His heart ached as she looked at him, but he knew he could do nothing to stop it. Soon, Agent and Diamond left and Ghoul talked to Party.

"Man," he started, "she really hates my guts."

Party gave him a concerned look, "What the hell happened last night?"

Ghoul put his rested his elbows on the table, "I told her what I told you; about how Agent was a phony and was only using her."

"Ghoul..." Party began, "are you sure Agent is a bad guy? I mean, you haven't been quite right ever since Diamond began spending more time with him instead of you."

"C'mon Party, don't tell me you don't believe me, too!" Ghoul whined hopelessly, "For God's sake man, don't fall for his bullshit, too."

"I'm not saying anything, Ghoul," Party shot back, "but he's been through some shit like we have, and maybe you're just a little paranoid."

Ghoul scoffed, "Man, I can't believe you. I thought you of all people would have my back."

"It's not like that, Ghoul, and you know it," Party exclaimed, "I'm just saying that maybe you should just give him a chance. Man, cut him some slack."

"Y'know what, man? Whatever."

Ghoul stormed out of the kitchen frustrated and defeated.
