Write a scene where some kind of emergency occurs.
---------
"Mom! Stepdad! We're here!" I yelled as soon as I walked in. "With Cameron!"
We stepped into the living room to find it a complete mess. There were boxes and boxes of stuff all around, packed with everything in the house. And there were some opened, like someone had taped it and cut it open again.
Since everything was packed up, there was nothing left in the living room except the multitude of boxes and some plastic-covered furniture. I had never seen the house so messy and disorderly before, since Mom usually liked everything to be neat and tidy. But I guessed she didn't really have time to think about 'neat and tidy' when there was so many other things to be done with the move and such.
My big sister, with her full moon belly, walked out from the kitchen with a plate of cookies in one hand and Melanie's hand in the other.
"Ava! Welcome home! Or at least what's left of it," she said as she shrugged at the mess.
"Um yeah, thanks," I replied.
"And Cameron! I haven't seen you since last Christmas!" She gave my boyfriend a smile and continued, "I would give you both a hug, but as you can see, my hands are full."
I reached out my hand to Melanie in order to lessen her load, but the little munchkin smiled sweetly and instead, went around me to Cameron to hold his hand.
I pretended to act offended and said, "What? Mel, how could you ignore your big sister? Oh well, I guess those presents we bought back in Michigan will all just have to go to William."
The 7-year-old gasped and quickly clasped my hand too, looking up at me with an expectant face.
Cameron nudged me as if to tell me to stop teasing her, and I relented. "Alright, alright, I guess you'll get some too."
Samantha laughed at the scene and told us to follow her to the kitchen.
When we had all gotten settled at the counter, with the little siblings busy with their coloring books, I asked while munching on a cookie, "When did you get here? I thought you said on the phone that you would arrive after us? And where's Mom and Stepdad? Oh yeah, and bro-in-law? Wait, they just left you alone with two kids when you could go into labor any second? Wh-"
"Whoa, slow down! One question at a time, Ava!" Samantha laughed as she held out her hands to slow me down. "First of all, we started out earlier than planned, so we got here 3 days ago. And Theo and Dad went to the new house to help with the furniture and stuff, and Mom went to the store to buy things for dinner. And yes, they did leave me alone with two kids, but I'm not going to go into labor any second. I have about two weeks left, so it's ok."
"But still...," I muttered.
My boyfriend, who was supposed to be on my side, cut in and said, "Yeah, Ava, it's ok. Besides, it's not like she isn't capable of doing things on her own, even if she is pregnant."
"Thank you!" exclaimed Samantha as she was digging in the cabinet.
I elbowed him in the arm and grumbled, "You, just be quiet."
William looked up from his coloring and promptly stated, "You should give him a time-out."
As I smothered an amused grin, I asked him why, and he answered solemnly, "Mommy gives Daddy time-outs when he doesn't take her side."
After exchanging glances with Cam, we burst out laughing at the same time. He was just too cute!
Melanie poked William in the side and said, "Silly. She gives him time-outs only when he doesn't give her the remote control."
