Write a scene involving a strong evident scent or smell.
----------------
I immediately knew something was wrong when my nose caught scent of the air in the house.
It couldn't be... Could it?!
Grabbing an umbrella, I sneaked over to where the smell was strongest -the kitchen.
"Ah ha! I caught you red-handed!" I yelled, piercing the air in front of me with the umbrella as I jumped into the kitchen.
What I saw wasn't what I expected.
My sister raised an eyebrow at me as she mixed something in a bowl. "What are you doing?" Her eyes flicked to the umbrella in my hands.
Lowering the weapon, I mean umbrella, I tilted my head at her and asked, "What are you doing?"
She hugged the bowl protectively against her. "I asked you first, you weirdo. Besides, it's none of your business."
I walked over to her and tried to peek into the bowl, but she turned out of the way, shouldering me back from seeing.
"Why do you have that umbrella anyway?" She asked, trying to change the subject.
I looked down at the umbrella still in my hands and shrugged. "I thought there was a thief in here."
My sister scoffed. "And why would you think something as stupid as that?"
Shrugging again, I leaned the umbrella against the wall and patted it. "It smelled like brownies. What else would I expect?"
She scoffed again and set down the bowl on the counter before turning away to look down at a recipe. "Yeah, that definitely makes sense. A thief broke in our house to bake brownies."
"Well, mom hates anything sweet, and you can't cook for your life," I ignored my sister's protests as I continued, "and Dad's on a business trip too, so I'd say that was very logical of me." I crossed my arms and nodded, agreeing with myself.
"Whatever. Go away now, I'm doing something." My sister shooed me away with her hand, but of course I didn't listen.
"What's this?" I peeked into the bowl she had left on the counter. It had white gooey stuff in it. "That doesn't look very good, you know."
My sister whirled around and snatched the bowl away. She pointed at the door and shouted, "Get out! Right now!"
I grinned cheekily at her and sat down on a counter stool. "So can I taste the brownies? The smell is pretty sweet."
She glared at me and turned around, ignoring my request.
"Are you making these for Aiden?" I asked. Except I elongated his name so that it sounded like 'Aaaayyyden?'
I heard her huff, and I giggled silently to myself. "Tell me when they're done. I'll make sure they won't kill him."
"Charlotte!"
Laughing, I raced out of the kitchen before she could dump that bowl of gooey stuff on me. I decided to go up to my room since there was nothing else to do.
But that was after I secretly snapped pictures of my sis in the kitchen. I was so going to use this later on. I cackled silently to myself as I swiped through the photos.
The genuine smile on her face made me stop for a moment. Maybe I would just keep them to myself, I thought as I climbed the stairs and opened my door. My nose automatically crinkled.
The scent of brownies had even taken over my room. And it was getting too strongly sweet over time.
On second thought, I'll definitely be using those pics. I grinned evilly as I closed the door.
