When the alarm clock on the bedside table started beeping annoyingly at 5 am in the morning, Stephanie groaned as she threw her blanket over her face to block out the noise. Unfortunately, the beeping still sounded crystal clear from under it, so Steph snaked a hand out toward the clock's general direction and pressed the snooze button expertly.

Sitting up sleepily with her bed hair looking like a porcupine just died on her head, she headed toward the bathroom with her eyes closed. Due to the fact that she did this every morning, it wasn't a particularly hard thing to do.

After attacking the deceased porcupine on her head with a brush and scrubbing her face with water and cleanser mindlessly, she patted her face with a towel and headed out of the bathroom.

She picked up her phone from her desk as she went to her closet to pick out something to wear. Clicking on the power button, she came to her home screen only to find out that today was the first day of break.

Steph blinked disbelievingly at her calendar hanging on the far wall which confirmed the fact. The fact that it was a day where she could've slept in until noon, and no college professors or biochemistry exams or sociology papers would be chasing her in her dreams, demanding that she get her lazy butt up and out of bed.

She scoffed at herself for not remembering to turn off the alarm last night. She debated whether or not she should sleep more, but decided not to. It wasn't easy for Steph to go back to sleep after waking up, so even if she did go back to bed, she would just be staring at the ceiling the whole time.

But then again, she didn't exactly have anything to do at five in the morning. Except going to school.

She shrugged, and settling to have an early breakfast, headed downstairs after changing into her favorite home clothes.

When she got to the kitchen, she switched on the lights and spotted her Maltese curled up in her pink doggy bed. Steph stroked her head affectionately and decided to take her for a walk after breakfast. Ever since she started college, she never had time for little Pepper anymore and wanted to make up for that.

Taking care to stay as quiet as possible, in order to not wake up any of her family members, she burned some toast and scrambled some too-salty eggs for her breakfast.

When she was done eating, she brushed off stray bread crumbs that had fallen unto her pink, teddy-bear-pattern pajama pants and stood up, her stomach full.

Rolling up the sleeves of her worn, light blue knit sweater, she washed the dishes squeaky clean and patted the now-awake Pepper with her feet, since her hands were wet.

Steph was about to go out of the kitchen when Jake walked in, yawning.

"Morning, little bro. You should really cover your mouth when you do that, your uvula isn't attractive at all."

"What?" Jake asked, as he walked over to the cabinet and pulled out a box of whole-grain cereal. Steph always wondered how he could stand to eat those stuff.

"You know. Your uvula? The small pendant fleshy lobe at the back of your soft palate?"

"The what at the back of my what?" Jake stared at her weirdly, one hand holding the cereal box halfway over a bowl.

Steph sighed like she was disappointed and said, "You know? The small thing that dangles at the back of your throat? They don't teach you that in high scho-?"

He cut in, "Whatever. I don't need my sister teaching me botany when I just woke up." He poured skimmed milk into his cereal. Again, she wondered how he could eat that.

"Um. Botany is the study of plants, genius," Steph retorted, leaning on the fridge door.

"Cosmology, whatever. Just get you and your teddy-bears out of here." Jake waved her off and shoved spoonfuls of his nasty cereal into his mouth.

"That's the metaphysical study of the origin and nature of the universe," Steph replied laughing as she walked out of the kitchen.

'What do they teach kids in schools these days?' She chuckled silently to herself as she ran up the stairs to get changed for her walk with Pepper.

The outfit was just what I wear at home because I didn't know what clothes to name. I asked my sister, since she knows more about that field than me, but she didn't say much. o-o;
