"Can't nothing come between us. That's my main one. And she'll always be down for life."
Saturday
4:00 PM"So did you have fun?" Zay asked me, I had just got through from changing into some comfortable clothes while Zay was sitting on my bed and eating a jelly donut.
"I had lots of fun." I said
"That's good, look at you out there making friends."
"Girl shut up"
"How's Trey doing?"
"He's good and he asked about you."
"Oh okay"
"Oh and Zay?"
"Yes?"
"I wanted to talk to you about something." I said sheepishly. This was the moment Zay had been waiting for, I was finally gonna talk to her about my sexuality.
"What is it?" She stopped chewing, "Are you pregnant?"
I laughed in her face. "Girl no. It's about my sexual preference."
"Oh my God! Spill! Do you know how long I've been waiting for this?" She bounced on my bed with excitement
I sat down next to her and smiled. "I'm a lesbian."
Zay looked at me with shock. "I knew it! I knew it! I'm so glad you finally opened up to me!" She hugged me so tight
It really felt good to open up to my sister. I felt so light and free as if I've been holding this in for the longest and didn't even know it. Another thing that made me happy was that Zay was overly excited about me opening up to her and that made me extra happy. I hugged her back.
"Zay and Dia!" Our mom called
"Yes?" We both said in unison, we broke our hug and went downstairs to her
"Yea Ma?" Zay asked
"I need to talk to you girls. It's about time I tell both of you the truth." She pulled out her lighter and a cigarette. "Sit"
We both sat down with worried expressions on our face. Ma looked so serious, I ain't never seen her look like this before.
"I'm just gonna go ahead and put it out there. There's no need to sugar-coat anything. But first, how was your day Dia?" she took a long pull of her cigarette, then blew out a huge puff of smoke towards the window even though it didn't exactly go out the window like she meant it to.
"My day was good. I made some friends and stuff."
"Okay now." She had a sad look on her face. She said she wasn't gonna sugar-coat anything.
"Dia, your mother called."
We both gave her a what the fuck look? What was she talking about? She is my Mama. See, I really hope she not popping no pills or nothing.
"Ma what you talking about?" Zay asked. She took the words out my mouth
"I know what y'all are thinking and no I'm not on drugs. I strictly smoke cigarettes only." She took another pull off her cigarette. "Dia's mother called from jail today and she said she wants to see you."
"Ma what does this mean?" Zay asked
"Zay this means that I'm not Dia's real mom. When you were born Dia, your Mama had just got found by the police. They approached her in the hospital."
"Police? What she did?" I asked
"She murdered your father"
"What? Why?" Zay asked
