Clary POV

Jesy and I walked through the portal side by side, and came out onto the New York street just opposite the institute. It took no effort at all to see through the glamour now, it was as if everyone including mundanes could see the towering, Gothic building. I turned around to an excited squeal and was met with a very, very, very excited Jesy. Oh gosh I thought to myself, if she keeps reacting like this to every bit of crap on the sidewalk I'm gagging her.

"Jess, breathe" I said in an exasperated voice, I was trying to be understanding and all but her whole 'I'm a tourist and very excited' attitude are getting on my nerves.

"Come on let's go in, we need to tell Maryse we're here" I said in a more calmer tone. Hoping that the prospect of going inside would get her to stop waving at random New Yorkers, who weren't really sharing her enthusiasm.

"ok, let's go" she answered simply. Well you'd think she was waiting for me to stop fangirling or something but nevertheless, I buttoned my lip and made my way to the large, wooden door that let you into the Institute.

We didn't need to ring the bell, as every institute is open to all Nephilim. The heavy, oak door swung open with a creak and I smiled. It's good to be back home, its been over three years since I've been in this place and I can't wait to go see my mom after this.

I stepped into the large foyer which was an old church, Jesy following behind me. The pews were encased in dust and candles lit the shadowy corners of the room, creating an almost dappled light. The thud of our feet making our way to the elevator was the only sound filling our ears for a while. Until a very familiar meow was projected through the room.

"Church" I said in greeting as the cat stalked lazy circles around my legs. "Where is everyone?" I questioned, while I leant down to scratch behind his ears. Church padded in the direction of the elevator shaft, drawing our attention to the noise of the lift working. Someone must know we're here.

"Next time don't even touch the little bugger" Jesy murmured to me with narrowed eyes. I sighed and looked at her first questioningly, then with my gaze laced with disapproval.

"I hate cats, they always used to sh*t in my grandmothers garden" she explained to me, like it was the most simplest thing in the world.

"So you have a hatred for all living cats..." I trailed off. My sentence disrupted by the sound of heels clacking furiously against the stone floor.

"OMFG! Clary!" Isabelle shrieked, as she leapt into my arms. She should thank her lucky stars, that I've gotten stronger since she last saw me as we would have both been on our arses on the floor right now.

"Nice to see you to Izzy" I laughed, as I tried to pry the dark haired girl who was now hanging koala style from my torso.

"Wow, you look so different" Isabelle said as she untangled her limbs from my own and set herself down on her six inch heels. "I wouldn't have recognized you if it hadn't been for your height!... well and your eye colour." Izzy admitted, still beaming at me.

I do have to admit that my height and eyes are probably the only same thing about me. My natural auburn hair was dyed a pillar box red and reached just above my waist. I had a silver lip ring on the left side of my bottom lip. I also had my favourite quotes tattooed on my hands, thigh, arm and stomach. The black ink really made a contrast with my porcelain like skin tone. Not only had I made changes like piercings and tattoos to my body, I now had more muscle and had a more toned stomach.

A clearing of a throat stopped Izzy's ramblings about how much I've changed.

"Hello, Clary" a friendly but authoritative voice spoke. I looked over Isabelle's shoulder to see Maryse standing there, wearing an almost proud mother expression.

"I hope your not too shaken up after portalling here" she said with an almost affectionate smile.

"We're good" me and Jesy said in unison. We both turned around to glare at each other but ended up laughing.

"This is my parabatai Jesy Cartwright" I introduced Jess with a small gesture of my hand.

"Nice to meet you Jesy" Maryse said politely as Isabelle jumped up and down, squealing. It seems everyone's squealing today, which is incredibly irritating if I have to point it out.

"Heya Jesy!" Isabelle squeaked and leant across to embrace my parabatai. "I can tell we're going to be good friends" announced Izzy, "We should all go to pandemonium together sometime".

"Nice to meet you both and I'm sure we'll be great friends" Jesy said grinning. "I'd love to go to Pandemonium, you can ask Clary I love clubbing!"

I just stood on the sidelines with Maryse, shaking my head slightly. Inside I was so glad that they get along, their my best friends, I don't know what I'd do if the despised each other. Though it seems they get on together perfectly.

By now all my nervousness had evaporated and I just wanted to go to get something to eat. Yeah... I'm hungry a lot.

"That reminds me, we have some newbies to introduce to you Clare" said Izzy as the four of us boarded the elevator. "There are two girls and a guy, they're staying her for the next three months" explained Isabelle. "They're all super nice, except for the blonde chick." carried on Izzy " she's a b*tch"

"Isabelle!" Maryse said with a glare. But you could tell she agreed with Isabelle's statement. Myself and Jesy just laughed, I can't wait to meet that blonde girl their talking about, after all, who doesn't love a good b*tch fight?

We had met up with Alec on the way to the kitchen and after a few introductions and a few brief hugs the five of us were all standing around and catching up in the kitchen. Not long after we had arrived a tall, well built guy walked in not wearing a shirt. As soon as his eyes landed on me and Jesy he smiled a 100 mega watt smile at us. I imagine that smile got all the girls, but he's going to have a rude awakening I thought to myself, me and Jesminda over here aren't your average girls.

"Hey there, I'm Ashton" the chocolate coloured hair guy stated as her rummaged through the surprisingly full fridge.

"Heya" I replied trying to get across my disinterest "I'm Clary and this is Jesy"

"Nice to meet you" he replied back, pulling out a bottle of water.

"Do you always walk around half naked or are we just... fortunate?" I asked, contorting my features into an expression of distaste. He took in our expression and froze.

"Uhhmm, nice meeting you guys but I gotta go now" he blurted out, looking sheepish. Ashton quickly crossed the room and ducked through the doorway.

"Kk, catch ya laters!" Jesy called after his retreating back.

"Oh my gosh, did you see his face?" Spluttered Alec " he's needed to be taken down a peg and you girls managed to do it  within what? Two minutes?" Alec state still unable to control his laughing fit. I just smiled at Alec as he recovered from his laughing fit, to my surprise, when I glanced over the usually military strict Maryse was biting down on her bottom lip. Trying to hold back her laughter.

When the hysterics subsided Maryse just walked over and placed her hand on me and Jesy's shoulders saying, "It's good to have you back, Clary" you could still here the smile in her voice.

Maryse POV

Jace is going to eat his heart out when he sees Clary. I know he still loves her, even of he won't admit it to himself yet. I think with amusement as I pat the two girls shoulders. These next few weeks are going to be incredibly fun.
