He stepped up to his door and took a deep breath. He had no idea what he would see behind that door. He had no idea if she was still even here or not. His neighbor stepped out of her apartment and looked at him. "Welcome home, Spencer." She spoke with a sincere smile.

"Is Mavis home?" He asked softly. His neighbor smiled and nodded.

"Oh she's such a sweet little thing. She helps me out all the time with things I need. She says it's an excuse to get out of the house." She spoke happily. Spencer smiled. "I'll leave you two alone." She smiled and started to make her way downstairs.

Spencer took a long breath and placed his hand on the doorknob. He turned it and pushed open the door. He saw her feet kicked over the back of his couch and that's all he saw. "Mavis?" He called as he stepped inside the apartment, closing the door behind him. He saw her hand come up in the air.

"Right here!" She called back to him. He laughed breathily with his dorky smile on his face. He set his bag by the door and walked over to her on the couch. She had a cup of coffee on the table and few cookies stacked in a neat pile on a napkin. She was almost upside down reading his favorite book. "I'm almost done with this." She spoke. He watched her tired eyes move as she read each line.

He went back over to his bag, grabbing it and walking to his room where he thought he would unpack. He looked around his bedroom and laughed breathily since she had been sleeping in his bed while he was away. "Spence!" She called after him as she walked from the living room to his bedroom. She stood in his doorway and watched him start to unpack his things. "I'll sleep on the couch tonight." She spoke softly to him. He shook his head.

"No it's fine. I can." He spoke to her. She sighed and shook her head.

"Spence, seriously. Sleep in your own bed. It doesn't matter. I'll sleep on the couch." She spoke to him. "You're not winning this." He laughed softly and nodded.

"Alright. Fine. I'll sleep in my bed." She nodded and crossed her arms across her chest. She admired what he was wearing. He had on a dress shirt and a sweater vest. Not many people, especially guys, would walk out into public like that, but she liked it.

"So..." she started looking away from him. "I go back to work tomorrow." She spoke softly. "I can...go back to my place once I start making money again." She spoke. He looked over at her with a raised brow. He didn't want her to leave. He enjoyed her company when he had it.

"You don't have to." He spoke as he looked back down at his bag, emptying it. He tossed the bag down on the floor where he usually has it. He put all of his clothes in a basket to be washed later. He looked over at her still standing in the doorway. "It's just. No one uses my apartment while I'm away." He spoke softly.

She sighed softly and nodded. "I work nights." She spoke to him. He shrugged.

"What do you even do?" He asked her. He never asked her about her job because he didn't want to sound like he was pushing her to go back to it.

She breathily laughed and looked away from him. "I get hit on by drunk bastards for seven dollars an hour." She spoke with a small smile. Reid was confused with what she just said. She looked up at him and saw the confusion in his face. "I bartend." She spoke. He nodded and said a small oh. "I'll leave you to finish unpacking." She spoke as she turned and headed back to the living room.

She sat back down on the couch. She grabbed the mug of coffee that was probably cold by now since she had made it hours ago. She held the mug with both hands and brought the edge of the mug to her lips. She closed her eyes as she drank the room temperature liquid. She could see her mother laying on that kitchen floor every time she closed her eyes.

Spencer had quietly made his way to the kitchen. He went to throw something away when he saw coffee filter after coffee filter in the trash. He stepped back into the living room and looked over at Mavis. She was clutching the coffee mug tight in her hand, her knuckles white. Her eyes were squeezed closed and her breathing was heavy. He walked over to her and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Oh god..." she muttered just at his touch. He had no idea what to do.

"Mavis." He called to her. She shook her head. He called her name once more. All she kept saying was no. The coffee mug slipped from her hands and crashed to the floor. Her eyes shot open and her face flushed of color. She was paler than a ghost. Her lips went blue and her body started to shake.

"Mavis..." Reid called once more. He reached up and grabbed her hands in his. "Mavis is me, Spence." He spoke to her. All she kept saying was the word no. "Mavis it's going to be okay." He spoke to her. She shook her head. He let go of her hands and wrapped his arms around her body to pull her closer to him. She squeezed her eyes shut as she started to cry against his shoulder. She clutched tight to his shirt and he started to rock their bodies, calming her down. He ran his fingers through her short hair.

"Please don't leave me." She spoke to him. He nodded and kept rocking. After awhile, she started to drift to sleep. Spencer slowly let her go and laid her down on the couch. He had no idea what started her episode. He wanted to be there for her, but knew he had a job to do. He stood up from the couch and looked down at her peacefully sleeping body. He pulled his phone from his pocket and called his supervisor.

"Yeah, Hotch. I think I'm going to need a couple personal days." He spoke into the phone.

"Take all the time you need." Hotch spoke into the phone. Reid hung up and slipped his phone back in his pocket. He sat down in one of the chairs in his living room and pulled down a book. He had to keep himself up as much as he could so he could protect Mavis from her night terrors she wasn't telling him she had.
