It was hours later. They had all fallen asleep except Spencer. He couldn't handle the suspense from not knowing if she was okay. He didn't blame everyone for falling asleep because it was a long flight home. Penelope stayed up as long as she could with him trying to calm him down and think about the happy memories he had with her.
He had smiled when he thought of one of his favorite times with Mavis. Penelope urged him to say it. He didn't want to, he wanted to keep it between him and Mavis, but Penelope was persistent. He told her about the time when they went to a flower shop after Mavis had agreed to move back in with him. She had said his apartment lacked a feminine touch, so he took them to a flower shop to maybe add a splash of color here and there beside the dreadful green color on his walls.
He had his hands in his pockets the entire time they were at the shop. He had a smile on his lips as he watched her look at every type of flower, mixing and matching different combinations. He told her about how she would smile brightly when she smelled the flowers. He told her that Mavis kept asking him if he liked a specific flower and instead of rambling off what he considered fun facts about them, he just shrugged his shoulders and said they were fine. She would always roll her eyes with a giggle and move on to the next one.
He told Penelope about how Mavis stopped and looked down at a small pot of purple Daisy's. He had learned that purple was one of her all time favorite colors, and she couldn't resist a dark purple plant. She had taken one of the bloomed purple Daisy's from the plant and brought it to her nose. She smiled as she sniffed the dark colored flower. He told her how when he got close enough to Mavis, she closed the gap between them and looked right into his eyes. Her icy blue eyes were looking right at him. He couldn't tear his gaze away from hers. She slipped the flower behind his ear and took a step back to admire the way he looked. She got the biggest and brightest smile on her face as she looked at him. It was the smile he could never forget. The smile that was purely genuine.
She picked up the potted plant and paid for them. She kept calling him absolutely adorable with the flower tucked perfectly behind his ear. He didn't want to move it or take it out because it caused her so much joy. He loved the way she smiled when she giggled.
Penelope was crying over the story and she was wiping at her eyes saying the story was beautiful. Jennifer had listened in on the story before she too had fallen asleep.
Spencer looked at his sleeping team members. He sighed and slowly got out of his chair. He walked over to the counter and started to fix himself a cup of coffee. It had been hours and no one has walked out to give an update. The situation was killing him. He wanted to know what was so wrong with her that it was taking this long. "Dr. Reid?" A small female voice spoke. Spencer turned around, the stir from his coffee in his hand. There was smaller woman standing there in perfectly clean scrubs. She had brunette hair pulled back into a tight ponytail. She had a file open and in her hand that had Mavis' name written on it.
"That's..." he started to speak, but his voice came out very faint. He cleared his throat and looked back at the nurse who called his name. "That's me..." he spoke, raising his hand. The team had woken up slowly just from the small amount of talking they were doing. Penelope looked over at the nurse worried.
"Is she okay?" Penelope questioned the nurse. The nurse turned to her, smiled and nodded.
"We managed to get her stabilized." The nurse started. "She had lost a lot of blood by the time you found her. You're lucky you found her when you did or she wouldn't have made it. You can go in and see her now, but she hasn't woken up yet. She needs her rest." The nurse spoke. Spencer walked up to the nurse and hugged her tightly. The nurse was taken back and gently patted him on his back, her retail smile never fading.
Spencer pulled away and the nurse handed him the file with all of her information so when he was ready he could see her. He swallowed back hard and nodded. It wasn't long until she disappeared back into the hospitals corridors. Spencer turned to his team and they were all standing up. "Thank you guys for being here..." he spoke quietly, putting his hands in his front pockets, the file under his arm, looking away from the team. They all said a small no problem before they left to go be with their loved ones.
Penelope walked up to Spencer and placed her hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Spencer." She spoke softly. He looked over at her and rose an eyebrow.
"For what?" He questioned.
"Letting her out of my sight." Penelope sighed. "If I would have been there with her while she was getting ready for work, we wouldn't be here! It's my fault." She spoke to him worriedly. He shook his head and breathily laughed.
"It's not your fault. I saw this coming. It's the man who took her's fault." He spoke as he looked up at Penelope. She nodded and patted his shoulder.
"Get some rest..." she spoke softly to him before walking away. He let out a small sigh and turned to walk down the hallway. It took him a little while to find her room. He stepped into the doorway and he saw her hooked up to every machine. Her arms were bandaged completely and she had stitches in her arms. She had bandages around her hips and her thighs as well. They didn't want her scratching at them as they healed. There was a small bag in the corner of the room that held all of her personal belongings they took off before surgery.
He made his way to the chair next to her bed and placed his hand on hers. Her body was still cold, but the sound of the heart rate machine kept him hopeful. She was stable in a medical sense, just not a mental sense. He got as comfortable as he could in the chair, and for the first time that night, he closed his eyes and managed to fall asleep in the chair.
