Break

She leaves, slamming the door after her. I couldn't stop her. No matter how much I pleaded.

"Fuck," I breathe, my heart falling into my stomach as I stare at the closed door. I can't believe this is happening. I've lost her. The only person that really truly matters in my life is gone.

I can't breathe. I have to get out.

Leaving my bag and only grabbing my phone and keys, I walk out the door. The cool air hits me, and I let out a breath. I lock the door to my apartment before going down the stairs to the first floor. Going out on to the street, I start walking.

Maybe Ashley is still nearby? I start walking in the direction of her house, but the girl with shocking blue hair is nowhere to be seen. I already miss her.

Walking briskly, I make my way toward the nearest bar. It's about a five minute walk from my house, so it shouldn't have surprised me as much as it did. When I enter, I see a very familiar person.

"Grant," I whisper, biting my lip. Part of me wants to leave, but that's when I see the girl beside him. She has long brown hair, and she's wearing a short skirt and crop top. Needless to say, she's not Ash.

They're talking, and the girl moves closer and closer to Grant. It wouldn't take a genius to know what's going to happen next. She leans in, pressing her lips to his. He roughly grabs her face, and I do the only thing I can think of doing. This is my chance.

I pull out my phone and start taking a video of them. The few customers in the bar glance to me curiously, but they go back to their drinks, minding their own business.

I start walking toward Grant and the girl, and they have no signs of letting up. His hand moves to her thigh, pushing her skirt up even further.

"Are you going to have sex here?" I ask, and Grant suddenly pushes the girl away from him. She lets out a shriek and falls off her chair. I flinch in shock, but I keep my phone pointed to Grant, making sure it has his face in the video.

He looks right at me, his grey eyes burning with rage.

"You," he hisses, and I clear my throat.

"I don't think that's Ashley," I say, and he narrows his eyes at me.

"You fucking bitch," he snaps, and I step back as he stands up.

"Do you do this often?" I ask, and you could practically see the smoke coming out of his ears.

At that point, I stop the video, knowing I have more than enough. I have to deal with defending myself—maybe. He's not going to hit me in the middle of this bar, is he?

I go over to the girl, who's still on the floor in shock.

"Are you okay?" I ask, helping her up. She smoothes her short skirt and nods, looking flustered.

"Thanks," she says before looking to Grant. He doesn't even look to her, and I let out a breath.

"Stay away from Ashley," I tell him, and he huffs.

"She loves me," he says.

"You have a girlfriend?" the girl demands, and he finally looks to her.

"We're on a break."

"Oh fuck you," she snaps, spinning around and walking out of the bar.

"Make it a permanent break," I tell him before turning around and following her. I know he tries to follow me, but the bartender shouts at him.

"Hey! You haven't paid for your drinks or hers!"

I burst out the door after the girl, who glances back at me.

"You going to this Ashley girl's place now?" she asks me, and I nod.

"She's really mad at me, though."

"Hmm." She brushes her long brown hair over her shoulder and brings her hand to her mouth. She takes her long blue nail between her teeth, as if in thought. "I'd say go anyway. She deserves to know," she finally says.

"Thank you," I tell her, and she smiles.

"Oh," she says, pulling out a piece of paper and a pen from her bag. "I'm Crystal." She scribbles something on the paper before handing it to me. It's her phone number.

"I'm Lauren," I reply, slipping the paper in my pocket.

"If you ever want to talk," she says, smiling again.

"Yeah. Thanks," I reply.

"Now go," she says, giving me a small wave.

I wave back before starting toward Ash's house.
