After Mafumafu arrived home, the cat had seemed to calm down just a little bit, which was good enough for him. He took off his shoes and entered his empty home, living alone. His parents wanted him to study at a prestigious school, and as much as Mafumafu argued and cried he didn't want to leave his hometown, here he was. He lived off support money his parents sent every month which was usually more than enough for paying rent and food and having some left over. He hoped his parents wouldn't mind if he spared some of the money for his new pet cat.
The albino smiled at the cat, only getting a cold stare from it in return.
"I'm really sorry...! I know how much it hurts to leave the home you're used to and you like, but this will be much better!" He exclaimed happily.
The albino realized, though, that he would need to take a warm bath and change before he ended up sick.
He hesitated, but he let the cat down slowly.
"I-I need to take a quick bath and change, okay? Please be a good kitty? I'll.... hmm... oh! If you can be a good kitty today, tomorrow I'll buy you treats!" He offered. He thought the cat seemed interested because it actually looked up to him before it began to lazily groom itself, licking its paw and then rubbing it onto the torn ear it had.
"Great! Be right back!" Mafumafu said and quickly left.
Since Soraru was alone, he took this as a chance to look his surroundings. It seemed like a nice enough place to the cat, a little empty with little furniture, but he expected that much from a student living alone.
Soraru jumped onto the couch, not minding that he was getting it dirty and he patted his paws onto it until it was comfortable enough, laying down into a small ball.
The house seemed decent, and the loud albino had promised him food if he complied, so Soraru decided he had nothing to lose. He didn't quite like how the albino got overly excited and shouted, but he could put up with it for some food. He couldn't remember the last time he even ate.
Besides, the cat thought to himself as he began to doze off, I'm a stray and he'll see that and he won't want me anymore. I belong on the streets.
The cat ended up napping on the couch, shivering occasionally from being a bit wet.
"Ah~.... that was such a refreshing bath!" Mafu said to himself as he put on some shorts and a shirt. He went to go check on the cat and to his surprise, it was already comfortable and asleep.
The sight made the albino smile widely and he thought that all the scratches on his arms was worth it to see the cat having a moment of peace.
Slowly, he approached it, reaching a shaky hand.
Before his hand could touch the cat's head, though, it had woken up and let out a loud hiss, it's claws already coming out. Mafumafu flinched and quickly pulled his hand away. He didn't think it would be so trusting as to let him pet it, but he knew might as well have tried.
"Ahh... I'm sorry I woke you up, kitty! You just looked really cute there and I wanted to pet you... but it's fine if you don't want that. Cats need their space, right? I'll do my best. I've been told that I can be very clingy, though,..." the albino mumbled and trailed off before shaking his head and smiling to cat. It looked pissed off again, but he just giggled.
"I'll give you a warm bath tomorrow once I buy cat shampoo. I'll also need a cat bed, huh... and of course the treats! Tomorrow will be a shopping day. How nice." He said softly to the cat, before he peeked up.
"Oh! I know! You'll need a name! Oh... but... are you a girl or a boy, kitty?" He asked.
Soraru would have face palmed if he could, wondering how someone could be so oblivious. Instead, the cat laid back down and rolled onto its side to show Mafumafu what he was.
"...oh my! A boy cat, huh? Let's see... what would be a good name..." The albino muttered to himself, thinking hard for a name.
"How about..." Mafu thought a bit more, before he said 'ah!' and smiled.
"Tenshi," he said dramatically. Soraru looked away.
"...no? Ah, that was a good one, too..." he murmured to himself a bit more and Soraru looked back to him. It was kind of funny to the cat, seeing the albino think so hard over a name when he already had one. Of course, there was no way he could tell the albino this.
"This is hard!! Okay! Hmm..." the albino began to list off names, the majority being ridiculous, some of them being weird, and a few times he even said 'tenshi' again.
"Seriously! You're so picky! Tenshi would be a really good name! Okay... Sora!" He said with confidence, the cat looking to him in surprise. To Mafu, the cat just looked a bit interested.
"Sora?" He said again.
Soraru was surprised the albino guessed part of his name, but it was missing the "-ru". He quickly wondered how to tell Mafumafu this, and he began to meow loudly, attempting to make a "ru" type of sound.
"Oh yay! You like Sora, huh! Okay, Sora!" Mafumafu was clearly excited and happy, thinking the cat was being super adorable over the name. However, it kept meowing and making a vague noise.
"What, what?!" Mafu asked, freaking out a bit. He listened to the cat. "Are you trying to speak?" He giggled. "Let me see... uhm... ruuu...? Sora, what are you trying to say?" Mafu asked and the cat had meowed loudly when he said "Sora".
"Sora...?" Another meow with a vague "ru" sound.
"Sora... ru?" The cat slammed its paw onto the couch and meowed even louder.
"Soraru!" Mafu exclaimed, even jumping up as he said it. "Soraru!!" He said again, even louder. Soraru meowed in confirmation.
"I see! Soraru is your name! Wow, what a smart kitty! Look at you... you're even sitting up and hitting your paw on my couch... too cute! So you can be a bit expressive, huh?" Mafu asked with a soft smile. He thought this could be the beginning of their friendship, but within seconds it was as if the cat changed. He went back to his cold attitude and turned away, making the albino frown.
Truly, it was Soraru being embarrassed he got that worked up over a human figuring out his name, but the albino wouldn't be able to know this.
"... I'm sorry," Mafu apologized. "It's getting late. Tonight you can sleep on a spare blanket," he said, getting up and returning minutes later with a soft blanket.
"I don't want to force you in my room, but I'll leave my door open!" He said with another smile as he left the blanket for the cat. "Night!" Mafumafu said as he went to his own room, sighing loudly once he was inside.
Instead of sleeping, he grabbed his phone to text his friend.
