A month went by and all of the seventh and eighth years were officially in exam mode. Hermione barely left her living room in the living quarters unless it was for food or classes and even then, most of the time she made her own food in their kitchen. Draco was the same. He would stay with Hermione and the two of them would study together. They are always fought over the top spot in classes, with Hermione normally winning, but now they were working together and Draco was sure that the gap between their grades would be even smaller this year. Hermione's revision process was a lot stronger than Draco's and he found himself taking more information in while studying with her.
But tonight was different. Despite being in exam season, Draco managed to drag Hermione away from her books for them to have a drink with their friends. Ginny was now getting into her pregnancy and had found out that she was in fact having a boy so her little girl wouldn't be coming quite yet but she knew how the Weasley's were with their lack of girl so didn't mind. Blaise and Luna were also preparing for their wedding towards the end of the school year. They had decided on a theme of flowers so all the bridesmaids would be wearing flowery dresses and the best men would all be wearing flowered shirts under their suit jackets. Both Draco and Harry were unsure on the whole look of it but went along with it anyway.
Hermione felt relaxed as they all sat in the Hogshead. She hadn't realised but she really needed this. She needed a distraction from her studying. Her head was filled with spells and curses and information for her exam that she had to slow down. "Earth to Mione." Pansy said as she waved a hand in front of Hermione's face and broke her from her trance. Hermione looked up at her with a surprised expression on her face. "You was gone for like a good five minutes there. What's on your mind?" Pansy asked. Hermione shook her head with a smile. "Nothing I was just thinking about how nice is it to get away from the stress of our exams." Hermione replied and turned to properly face the group.
"So Draco had your dad been in touch with you?" Blaise asked him. Draco shook his head "No which is weird. He went on for ages when I was at home about me and Hermione and the minister informed me that we went to try and get us broken up but since then I've had no contact from him and mother says that he's out most of the time which is so unlike him especially as Voldemort is gonna be gone." Draco explained. Hermione looked up and joked. "Maybe he's planning something." But Draco shook his head "Please don't joke about stuff like that. I don't want him to do anything to hurt you. At all."
The friends all got some dinner and were eating it. "Thanks Aberforth." Hermione said as he placed some butterbeer on her table. He smiled at her and then Hermione looked at Ginny. "Look at your bump. Your little boy is growing nicely." She smiled. Ginny nodded as she had a hand placed on her baby bump. "I know. I can't wait until you girls get to go through all this as well." Ginny smiled. Pansy laughed "Yeah except we're all smart enough to not get pregnant while we have all our exams to be worrying about." She joked and Ginny hit her playfully. The boys had moved to talk by themselves and also play a game of exploding snap. "It'll be weird don't you think." Luna spoke. "Like having a small person growing inside you." she said and then added on. "But also the Nargles attack you more when you're pregnant." She said. Hermione smiled. "Is that why Ginny never remembers where she put things? Have the Nargles moved it?" Pansy asked with a giggled. Luna nodded. "Probably."
Draco and Hermione went back to their living quarters a few hours later. Hermione had insisted that she did need to get back to her studying as she had an Arithmancy exam in only a couple of days and wanted to make sure she was perfectly able to get her good grades. Draco also wanted to study. Before the war his lessons had been a burden for him. He knew that he would take over the Malfoy business but he decided after the war that he should help people and was now looking into becoming an Auror or a Healer, he still wasn't sure which one. If he did well in his classes than he would be qualified to do either depending on what he wanted.
"Mione?" Draco asked after a little bit. Hermione looked up at him. She had seen him not really being focused for the past ten minutes and knew that he was in deep thought about something. "Yeah Draco." She answered with a smile, putting her quill down for a moment. "Why do you think my father hasn't been in touch?" He asked. "He was furious about it. He hated the fact that I would be marrying a muggleborn and yet it's been a month since our wedding and he's not done anything or even contacted me." He said, sounding very nervous. Hermione shrugged "I don't know Draco maybe he's just taking some time to process everything. You know your mother writes frequently to us both and she hasn't mentioned that he's planning something." Hermione said in a reassuring way. Draco nodded but deep inside him he couldn't help feel like his father was planning something against him.
Lucius walked down Knockturn Alley, using his cane as always to help him walk down the street. He didn't really need it but he felt like it would show his presence. He looked up at the store in front of him and smirked as he walked into Borgin and Burkes. "Mr Malfoy. A pleasure." Mr Borgin said to him. "The dark potion you asked for is coming along nicely." He added on. Lucius smirked and walked into a back room where a caldron sat bubbling away. "Good." Lucius spoke as he watched the potion. "How much longer until it is complete?" He asked. Borgin looked at something really fast "Should be finished within a few weeks." He replied to Lucius. Lucius just smirked "Perfect. And it will be strong enough to kill her?" He asked again. Borgin seemed unsure for a moment before nodding and smirking. "I believe so." Lucius nodded as he dropped a bag of coins on the table. "Pleasure doing business with you."
The next day, Hermione and Draco decided to go down to the great hall for their breakfast. Hermione was nervous because of her exam and had wanted to study for the whole morning but Draco managed to persuade her that eating breakfast was very important and eating with her friends would calm her down. "I don't know how you do it Draco. Me and Ron tried calming her for 8 years and it never worked at all." Harry joked which caused him to get a playful shove from Hermione. "I will make your child hate Quidditch." She threatened. Ginny shook her head "You'll do no such thing. James is going to be one of the best seekers that Hogwarts has seen, other than his father of course." Ginny smirked before kissing Harry's cheek. Hermione giggled and took her seat next to Draco.
The friends were all eating their breakfast and talking about all their upcoming exams when the post started to arrived. Draco's owl landed flew over and dropped a letter in front of Draco. "That's my father's handwriting." He said, picking up the letter in front of him and ripping it open. Hermione looked over at it as Draco started to read the note.
Dear Draco,
After a long and hard think and a sit down with your mother, I have decided that I will give Hermione a chance to show herself to me. To show that the ministry did make the right choice about this whole thing with you two. Me and your mother would like to invite you for dinner the weekend after you exams finish. We hope you can both make it.
Your Father.
Hermione was beaming "Draco that's wonderful news. I told you he was taking time to adjust." Hermione said excitedly but Draco didn't look so happy. "No this isn't like him at all. I know it isn't. He's planning something Mione. We're not going to this dinner." Draco decided. Hermione sighed "But what if that's his test. If I come he knows I'm good for you and if I don't he tries harder to break us up." She sighed as they got up and walked out the great hall hand in hand. But the sinking feeling in Draco's stomach didn't agree with it. Not one bit.
Soooo... Do you think Lucius' plan is going to work? Can anything break them apart? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
But as always, thank you for the support on the story and I can't wait to see what you all think of the chapter. Don't forget to Vote and add the story to your list.
See you next time.
Love, Alex xxx
