***Terra's P.O.V.***
I slowly regain consciousness, getting the feeling back in the tips of my fingers and toes first. Even so, he only movement I can manage a small twitch of my fingers. I'm unable to open my eyes or even swallow, but I can still feel how dry my mouth is. It feels like I've gone months in the desert without water.
As time passes, I start getting a better sense of my surroundings. The first thing I notice is that I'm not in my bed. The covers are thinner than the ones in my room and the mattress is slightly uncomfortable. My muscles protest the small movement, but I manage to turn onto my side. After a few moments, I realize it's harder for me to breath in this position, so I return back to my original position. What confuses me is that the constriction in my chest has only lessened. It's still there.
"I think she's finally waking up." Someone whispers, but it sounds like they screamed it in the silence.
"I hope it isn't like the last time." There's no response.
I strain my hearing as much as I can and hear two distinct heartbeats. Okay, so two people are here with me. Who are they?
A sudden thought hits me. What if I was kidnapped again? Will I wake up and be some murderer's prisoner.
"She's panicking again."
"I'll call the nurse." Light footsteps sound throughout the room before I finally hear a steadily increasing beeping.
"Oh dear." A new voice sounds from right next to me.
My lips part slowly and a small 'no' slips past my lips before darkness consumes me against my will.
My eyes fly open and I'm staring at a pale blue ceiling. The lights are off, and there's little to no light in the room. Turning my head to the side, I immediately recognize where I am, but I don't know why I'm here.
"Terra?" Looking to my other side, I catch sight of my mom slouched in a chair next to the bed. Like the last time I was here, she looks tired and in dire need of a hug.
"Mom." My voice comes out scratchy, and I cough at the uncomfortable feeling of a dry throat. She quickly hands me a cup, and I greedily drink the water in it. My parched throat immediately feels better, and I lick my lips, tasting a little bit of dried blood. My confusion doubles.
"I send my mother a questioning look, but she's watching me warily. It's almost like she's afraid that I'm going to run away. Why? I don't know, but I'm dying to know why I'm in a hospital bed.
"What's going on?" I ask realizing that she won't be speaking on her own anytime soon. Her eyes slowly trail over my stiff form before meeting my gaze. Her expression is guarded, only doubling my questions.
"What's the last thing you remember?" Is all she says. I give her an incredulous look.
"Don't answer my question with a question." I retort and this draws a frustrated sigh from her.
"Humor me Atierra. What is the last thing you remember?" I frown and try to recall something... anything, but nothing particularly dangerous sticks out.
"I was having breakfast with Aaron and Bryn, but unless the waffles tried to kill me, I still don't see why I'm here." She shakes her head.
"Anything after that?" I close my eyes to visualize what she wants, but all I get is the start of a headache.
"Nothing. I don't know." Worry starts to bubble up inside me, and the heart monitor I'm connected to starts beeping faster.
"Maggie finally woke up." She states slowly, and I smile.
