Finally, Reef thought. Finally, after hour of doing nothing, we can go outside and play! Her heart swelled with joy at the thought and for once, Salt wasn't just lounging around and doing nothing. In fact, he looked just as excited as she was to finally be getting  out of their cave. It had felt like eternity in there!

But something bothered Reef as she felt the fresh river water meet her scales. When was her mother going to show up? At this point, Reef's memory of Tsunami was hazy at best, but she did remember that her mother always wore a sad smile on her face when she saw them. As if, no matter what, Reef's mother knew that she would have to leave her family again. Reef's thoughts were interrupted by Salt.

"Hey," he flashed. " I was thinking, since Dad's going to be really busy for the next week, how about we take some trips to the ocean. He'll never find out."Reef blinked for a moment in surprise; this wasn't the Salt she knew. Her Salt was lazy and only wanted to sleep and eat.

"What's up with the sudden change of heart?" She flashed back. He shrugged.

"Call me crazy, but I feel as if something in the sea is calling me, beaconing me and I feel as if I have to go." Reef was utterly stunned.

"That's crazy! I feel the same way!" A look of excitement passed across her brother's face, and he did a front flip in the water. Reef tried and failed miserably to hold in her laughter; this was the happiest she'd felt in a long time. Suddenly, Salt frowned.

"Now THAT, is out of character," he flashed. "My sister, laughing? No! It simply cannot be!" Reef glared at her brother briefly for a moment before allowing her mask to slip. She wasn't sure why, but she had never seen this jokester side of Salt before, and she liked it. Perhaps, just maybe, her life would be bearable if he kept it up.
