Chapter 20 • Prom

The doorbell rang, so you got up from the couch to answer it while Lori continued to watch TV.  You opened the door to see Dan in an all black suit.  His eyes grew wide the moment he saw you. 

"Hey Dan," you greeted with a smile,"you look nice."

Dan's POV:

Y/N looks stunning.  She's so beautiful, but of course she always looks flawless to me.

"You look amazing,"I said.

She smiled, and I pecked her on the lips.

"It's true," I added and smiled back at her.

Your POV:

Phil's footsteps could be heard coming down the stairs, and you looked up to see him in a black suit and purple bow tie.

"Hey Phil," Lori said and stood up. 

"Oh-hey Lori, you look nice."

Phil must've been nervous, they're so cute together. She walked over to him and held his hand.

"By the way," Dan added,"I haven't gotten to clean out the back of my car yet, so there's only room for two people."

"Phil and I could take my car?"Lori suggested.

"Yep, that sounds great, and Y/N and I can take mine."

So, the four of you headed out to the two separate cars.  As he drove, Dan held the steering wheel with one hand, and held your hand with the other.  When you arrived at the school, you looked around the parking lot to see if Phil and Lori had gotten there yet.  They hadn't.

Dan's phone buzzed. He looked down at it.

"Phil just texted me and said they had to get gas. They'll be a few minutes behind, but he said we could go on in."

You nodded your head, and Dan put his arm around you as the both of you walked into the school gym where prom was behind held. The music was loud, and you could even hear it from outside. It wasn't the type of music you liked to listen to either.

"Do you want me to get us both some punch?" he yelled over the music.

You nodded your head, and he walked off to go get your drinks. You didn't get along well with anyone at school other than Dan, Phil, and Lori, so you didn't have much to do other than wait for him to get back. Luckily, you didn't have to wait long, because you saw two familiar faces coming toward you.

"Hey Y/N,"Phil yelled over the music.

You waved at the both of them and smiled so you didn't have to raise your voice.

"Where's Dan? Wouldn't he be with you?"

Just as he asked, Dan conveniently appeared from within the crowd of people. He handed you your drink and took a sip of his. He waved at the both of them, and Lori tapped Phil on the shoulder.

"We're gonna go request a song, we'll be back."

She grabbed him by the hand and dragged him through the crowd to find the DJ. Both you and Dan stood there awkwardly as you took sips of your drinks, and when you were done, you put your cups in the trash. The current song suddenly stopped, and the both of you looked around to see why.

Your attention was caught by someone walking up onto the stage. He had on a black suit and a floral bowtie. His face had a rather anxious expression, and his eyes sparkled after he had stepped into the spotlight.

"Um, h-hello,"he stuttered,"I'm Tyler Joseph, and I'm gonna sing a slower song for you." His voice cracked when he spoke.

He looked toward a boy with pink cotton candy hair and said,"This goes out to a very special person in my heart."

He began strumming chords on his ukulele, and began to sing into the mic.

"Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you"

Dan took your hand and asked,"Would you like to dance?"

You smiled and nodded,"I'd love to."

The both of you stepped out onto the dancefloor.

"Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you?"

You laid your hands on Dan's shoulders, and he put his hands around your waist. He smiled down at you as you swayed to the beat of the song.

"Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be"

Glancing over, you saw Phil and Lori dancing to the song together too. They both looked so happy. You looked back at Dan, and before long you found yourselves gazing into each other's eyes.

"Take my hand,
Take my whole life, too
For I can't help falling in love with you"

You rested your head against Dan's chest as Tyler continued to sing the rest of the song, and you could feel Dan's heart beating. His lips lowered down to your ear and he whispered, "I love you, Y/N."

Your heart jumped. You lifted your head off of his chest and looked him in the eyes.

"For I can't help falling in love with you"

"I love you too, Dan."

You both smiled at eachother out of joy, and you giggled. He cupped your cheeks and kissed your lips. Tyler strummed the last chord, and cheers errupted for him throughout the gym as he took a bow and quickly stepped offstage.

A/N: I chose this song to be in this chapter partly because my best friend jeannecohen0905 is a huge fan of twenty one pilots.  She actually writes some fanfiction too if you wanna check it out, it's mostly TOP things and Joshler.  Anyways, we both love this cover, and I felt it would suit it nicely.  Plus, I loved the idea of adding Tyler and Josh into the story too. I'm awkward when writing author's notes, so I guess I'll just end it here?  If I say goodbye it'll make it weirder, trust me idk why.
