ballad of a brat

once there was a pretty young princess
the most beautiful girl in the land
with flax-golden hair, violet eyes that were rare
many princes wanted her hand

but alas there were multiple problems
with this charming young maiden so fair
for she was a brat, and a mean one at that
it was more than most princes could bear

her father waited and waited
for a prince come to be a male heir
but no prince could handle that right piece of work
so the king said many a prayer

so when it was time for the good king to die
with no princes caught in his snare
he said to his daughter, while holding an auger
"is this kingdom too much to bare?"

she replied, "no father, i am ready, just wait
"for this kingdom i can care
"you see i wasn't a brat, nor a bad one at that
"i was lying, this kingdom to spare"

"i knew you wanted a man to lead
"our delightful kingdom so fair
"but i want to lead, i am nice, show some heed
"and do better than any male heir"
