I could feel the sweat threatening to break out all over my body. My hands were shaking with anticipation. My head was aching from the endless hours of concentration and my body was about ready to give out. Although my muscles were aching, begging me to stop, I pushed forward.
I forced my body to keep running. I had lost track of time, hell I didn't even know how long I've been running but I knew I couldn't stop now. I have to be stronger, need to be stronger. I ran through out the open field, brushing past the tall grass surrounding me.
The sun was shining on my face, the warmth spreading throughout my body. I started to pick up the pace and let the warmth of the sun take me away. The warm ness was so indulging, tempting me to follow it till the end. And that's exactly what I wanted to do.
I soon realized that the warmth on my skin wasn't just from the sun. I could feel warmth spreading in my vanes, pleading to come out. I let it have it's wish and let in to the fire burning inside of me.
I stopped running and let the last drops of sunshine catch my sight before I closed my blue eyes. I concentrated on letting the fire free. Soon I was wrapped in flames. My raven black hair was blazing along with my body. My once baby blue eyes were now shining a bright golden red.
I focused on the fire coursing throughout me and pulled it back in. Within seconds I was no longer aflame and my eyes returned to there natural color. Curious with a new found purpose, I forced myself to do something new. I wanted to know what I was capable of, what I could do.
I pushed myself hard, knowing that was the only way. My head started to pound but I ignored it. I pushed and pushed until my head hurt so much I couldn't think. With one last push of my mind, I screamed out in pain and dropped to my knees.
I held onto my pounding head in hopes to stop the pain bouncing around in my mind, playing with me like a child plays with their toys. When the pain settled enough for me to open my eyes, I was met with a concerned Alex. I could see his lips moving, but I couldn't hear a thing.
He frantically paced around trying to speak to me, but I didn't understand. I felt him try to mind link me and I screamed out in more pain. My head was throbbing from all the pain I was feeling.
After awhile my hearing started to come back slowly. I could faintly hear Alex's cries for me to hear him.
" Amara, please answer me, please."
" Alex, my head. " I said softly.
He looked at me and did something very unexpected. He bent down to me and placed his hand on the top of my head. His soft touch lowered the pain almost automatically. The pain in my head slowly started to go away. Alex was pulling the pain from my body, I could feel it, and I secretly thanked him for it.
When I could think again I looked to Alex and asked him what had happened.
" You pushed yourself too hard Amara, please don't ever do that again, you scared me. "
"I'm sorry I was just trying to be ready, in control, I only wanted to do something more."
He looked at me with an unreadable expression.
" What exactly were you trying to do? What happened back there Amara?" he asked concern written on his face.
" Well I was running, and I got a sudden feeling of warmth, so I embraced it and, well I caught on fire I guess so.." I was cut off.
" Fire? You caught on fire?" Alex said to me a little shocked.
" Yeah.."
He stood there with a concentrated look. He almost looked like he was having a mental conversation with himself, like he was debating something.
" Alex, what is it?"
" What happened after you caught on fire?"
" I stopped it and tried to do something else, but then my head started hurting until it became unbearable and I couldn't hear anything. " I answered him hastily.
He thought to himself for a moment before deciding on whatever he had debated earlier.
" It seems that you...well, I assume that your an eather sòtèr. I thought they didn't exist..but it seems I'm wrong. Im not entirely sure but if your not an eather then I don't know what you are."
Alex had me baffled. What was an eather and are they rare? I needed answers, that seemed to be the constant thing in my life, answers..
Alex caught my confusion and continued to explain to me.
" An eather is known as the keeper of the elements, seeing as you control lightning I figured that was your strength, but if you can also control fire, well I've never heard of a sòtèr with more than one ability, unless its an eather. but if you are an eather then I don't understand how you can control lightning."
It seems that I wasn't the only baffled one for once. If I really was a eather, that I wanted to learn how to control my elements. I wanted to be all that I could be. I thought about what Alex had said about lightning.
" Maybe it's like a 6th sense. Maybe lightning is my 6th sense."
He looked quite shocked by my reply but then he started to think about it. I guess he agreed with me because he just nodded and continued to have an enteral battle with his mind.
I stood up from the ground and tried to pick up where I had left on when Alex stopped me.
" Amara you can't rush the elements. If you keep pushing yourself, your body will give out. I need you to be patient with this. The fire ability may have come easily, but that doesn't me that the rest will, and pushing yourself won't help. Please just don't push yourself."
I gave Alex a small nod and told him I'd see him at home.
I ran off in the direction of my house in desperate need of a shower.
