Star Garnet proved to be one of the most helpful, dependable, and clumsy Gem warriors known throughout Aura Quartz's army. He was also incredibly swift and his intangibility was extremely useful in battle. Star Garent was able to run through the battle field unharmed as the Diamond's forces fired arrows and lazers at the rebels, and take out every Gem that was firing a projectile. When he initially began this practice, he feared any possible damage that could have come to his gems, but a bismuth happily made him armour that protected him from any such travesty.

Bismuth was a courageous and powerful Gem. She often fought without weapons or armour despite making them for her companions. It was a quality Star Garnet found admirable but concerning; it was great that Bismuth had both the strength and courage to fight empty handed, but her brute strength was intimidating. That wasn't the only concern Star Garnet had about her, either.

One day, Star Garnet was relaxing by a pond, free of his armour, free of any general responsibilities, with his back propped against a large rock when he overheard Bismuth speaking with another Gem. Bismuth was gloating about cracking several gems from Yellow Diamond's court earlier that day. "I could have shattered them – every last one!"

Star Garnet stood abruptly, giving away the fact that he was there at all. He spun to face Bismuth and the other Gem and furiously hissed, "No life should be taken unless absolutely necessary, and what you're doing is highly unnecessary!"

Bismuth nudged her friend. "Oh, lookie here, Aura's best soldier thinks he knows best. The soldier that abandoned his own kind out of selfishness of his Gems." Then she frowned sternly and crossed her arms over her chest. "You don't have any place to talk, Garnet. From what I've heard, part of you shattered a gem and the other let it happen. One of you clearly think it's fine to take out the enemy."

"Gems can change, Bismuth," he stated harshly. "And you weren't there – you have no idea what circumstances we were facing."

Bismuth nodded and raised an eyebrow. "So, tell me then, how is this any different?"

"Obsidian shattered the Gem that had imprisoned Black Opal and over 5,000 Gems. She was going to shatter Black Opal because she was frustrated with a prediction he provided her with." His eyes flickered in color, becoming brown. "I had to protect him." He blinked and they became green once more.

The larger Gem smirked and uttered word of spite: "Hypocrite." Bismuth turned to her companion and chuckled.

Star Garnet angrily shook his head. "Whatever. The point is, you cannot go around shattering any gem you please. We may be in the midst of violence but there is no need for it to escalate to that degree."

"Well, listen, Obsidian. I've been working on a special project that I'm sure you would appreciate. It'll stop anyone from hurting your beloved – "

     "Don't call him that."

Bismuth held up her hands in defense, then crossed them again. "It'll stop anyone from hurting Opal and it'll destroy the elites that allowed your imprisonment." She then paused to smile proudly. "You were the inspiration, really, Garnet. Your blades are spectacular and they could really deal the damage I'm looking for."

Star Garnet tightened his fists and suppressed a growl. "I'm not going to let you go through with this."

Bismuth scowled at this threat and ushered her companion to act as a lookout. Her hands morphed into large, double-headed hammers. She held them at the ready, prepared to fight and win. "Then you're the enemy. You should want to remove the threat as much as I do; you've been through it all. You will not undermine Aura's agenda."
