Chapter 19

(Niall's POV)

I woke up in a room. Not the hospital room, which is what I expected. Instead, I found myself in a beige colored room, its walls slightly cracking. A tele was on, the soft voices coming from the show barely reaching my ears. I rubbed at my eyes, willing them to open. Yet, I found that it was incrediably difficult. I groaned loudly, rolling so my head dug into the pillow. I was almost close to falling asleep again, when I heard a door click open, followed by soft footsteps. Voices began to reach me as they entered where I was at. I feigned sleep, however, wanting to listen in on the conversation.

"Well, what did the doctor say?" A male voice whispered.

"She's not looking too good. They're testing hundreds of things at the moment while they have her drugged, but they said they'll narrowed it down to her brain. Apprently, with the first accident, this second one has caused major trama to her brain. They don't know how it's affected her." A new voice, definately female replied.

"God..."

"Yeah."

I rolled over, my eyes trained on the two people who had been talking. I found Liam, and surprisngly, his mum. They hadn't noticed I was awake, simply staring at other points as they pondered their own thoughts. In a way, Liam was just like his mum. When they wanted to think about something, they did so quietly, on their own. They pondered their thoughts often, making sure not to make rash and bold decisions, but one's that were thought out and planned.

I guess that's why Liam and I were so close. I was more rambongious than he was. We balanced each other out. He liked to be in his own thoughts and respected others when they needed to think, and I respected him for that. It wasn't often, but sometimes I just needed someone to be there, just a presence to keep me steady. Not someone like Louis, who would try to cheer you up with jokes and pranks. I needed someone who would listen to what i had to say; and Liam was a fantastic listener, just like his mum.

His mum turned, her eyes going wide as she noticed that I was awake. "Good morning dear. How do you feel?" She asked me and she came to sit on the bed next to me head.

She brushed my hair out of my still sleep riddened eyes. I blinked them rapidly, my vision soom becoming clear. I gave her a sleepened smile.

"I feel, pretty good actually." I responded. Which, I realized, was true. Even though I still felt the effects of just waking up, I felt new found energy coursing through my veins. I guess I didn't realize how much my body was craving sleep.

"Well I would hope so." Liam said as he came to stand next to his mum. "You've been asleep for a good day."

I felt my eyes buldge out of their sockets. "A whole day?"

Liam's mum nodded. "Don't worry, everything is going okay with Bella."

"They're doing test." I said, but then closed my trap. Now they knew I had been awake.

Liam sighed loudly. "So, you heard?"

I nodded my head. "How bad is she?"

"We really don't know. They can't really tell us much." Mrs. Payne said as she pulled out her vibrating phone. "Excuse me boys." She said, turning to head to a seperate room to answer the phone.
