chapter sixteen

"Youngmin likes you." 

 Yerin suddenly says to her first thing the next day. Woojin is by her side, with his arms crossed over his chest and a cheeky smile on his lips as he steals glances at Yerin, then laughs out loud when he looks over at Yuna's expression. 

She shakes her head, "Stop. Don't make jokes like that." 

Then she looks around the area, to spot Kim Donghyun walking over to them while waving his arms and smiling even though he's still meters away. Nobody speaks until he reaches them, greeting them cheerfully."Good morning," 

They all mutter a 'good morning' in reply before Woojin says he has to go on to his class first to do some last minute procrastination, and Donghyun asks both of them if they both want to sit down first because it's still early after Woojin is out of sight and earshot. 

"Where's Youngmin, anyway?"

Yuna suddenly asks and Donghyun raises his eyebrows. "Shouldn't you be the one to know that since you're his neighbor and all?"

"I haven't seen him yet today," Yuna shakes her head. "No one got the door when I knocked earlier before I walked to school, it's either he's still asleep or he's already here." 

Yerin then waves her hand in front of both their faces and points to Donghyun's back, but then a pair of hands suddenly cover Yuna's eyes and she yelps even though she somewhat already has an idea on who this is, because seriously, who else would do this? 

 "I hate you, Youngmin."

"Aw, come on, we all know you don't mean that-"

He abruptly stops speaking because Yuna has now removed his hands from over her eyes and ducked underneath his arms, an awkward smile on her face. Donghyun quickly gets up from his seat and slings his arm around the older's shoulder, saying to both Yerin and Yuna that they'll be heading ahead first, and that they'll hopefully see them both in the afternoon.

"Well, it's been nice to see Youngmin back in school after so long," Yerin comments as they watch the boys leave, and Yuna is suddenly reminded of what Woojin has said to her the other day.

"Yerin-" Yuna speaks up and Yerin turns to her with a hum, nodding at her to continue, "You don't like Youngmin, do you?"

Her answer is immediate, her eyes wide at Yuna and she actually looks genuinely shocked at the thought. "I don't. Of course I don't." 

And since Yuna is the kind of friend to trust easily, she doesn't ask more. It's not like she can do anything in the chance that Yerin is lying and actually does like Youngmin anyway.

However, when she gets to her first class of the morning without Yerin, she wasn't expecting him to be standing outside the classroom door with some of her classmates whispering while shooting glances at her.

"Isn't he the student council president? What's he doing here?"

Yuna doesn't know, either; she thought he was with Donghyun, and the bell's about to ring, shouldn't he be in his own class instead of standing by the doorframe of her classroom?

Youngmin quickly straightens up when he spots her, an easy smile forming on his lips. "Hey."

"What are you doing here? Why aren't you in class?"

"I wanted to talk to you-"

"We can talk later." Yuna cuts him off, and she can suddenly hear the whispers from inside the room become louder; she drops her head and lowers her voice. "Go to class, Youngmin-"

"No wait, this is really important." He drops his voice as well, almost a whisper. "Whatever Donghyun and Woojin say about me, please, don't believe it. Even that one about... about me liking you apparently, I'm sorry, but don't believe it. Nothing... nothing is true."

Then, he leaves, his head low as he runs over to the stairs and taking them two at a time to get up to his room, without sparing her another glance. Yuna bites down on her bottom lip and sighs. It's not like she even believed it anyway.
