"And how was your flight?" Pierce asked, trying to sound remotely interested in his guest's lives.
"Lovely," the only woman said. "The ride from the airport less so."
"Sadly SHIELD can't control everything." Pierce knew this more than he let on.
"Including Captain America." Pierce was thrown out of balance by another one of his guest's rude remarks.
Pierce was going to snap back at his guest, but thought it better not to. Instead, an agent came towards him, a black box in his hands. "This facility is bio metrically controlled and these will give you unrestricted access." Pierce brought his four esteemed guests up to his office in the highest level of the facility so they could see the beauty of the carriers as they rose two hours from now.
Pierce continued when he poured out drinks for the four guests. "I know the road hasn't exactly been smooth, and some of you would have gladly kicked me out of the car along the way." He paused, taking in his own achievements. "Finally we're here. And the world should be grateful." Pierce and his guests were about to drink their champagne when a familiar voice sounded over the loudspeakers that continued through the whole SHIELD campus.
"Attention all SHIELD agents. This is Steve Rogers." Everybody in Pierce's office suite stopped drinking their champagne. Steve continued. "You've heard a lot about me the last few days. Some of you were even ordered to hunt me down, but I think it's time you know the truth." Steve paused. "SHIELD is not what we thought it was. It's been taken over by Hydra." Pierce looked uneasy as his guests looked at him with sharp glances. "Alexander Pierce is their leader." His guests took a little step back. Wild thoughts ran through Pierce's mind. He couldn't afford to lose, not this far ahead in the game. "The strike and insight crew are Hydra as well. I don't know how many more, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want - absolute control. They shot Nick Fury and it won't end there. If you launch those helicarriers today, Hydra will be able to kill anyone that stands in there way, unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot. The price of freedom is high, it always has been. And it's a price I'm willing to pay. If I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not."
Steve's voice ended. Part of the strike and insight crew came and stood beside Pierce. He had asked them to when Steve's message first started. You could tell there was tension in the room, and one wrong word could blow it up.
One of the guest's spoke up to the team. "Arrest him," he said as he pointed to Pierce. Instead, he got a gun pointed to his head.
"I guess I've got the floor," Pierce said, no remorse shown.
---
Meanwhile, Sam and Steve headed outside. Hill remained indoors in a lone computer room, keeping everyone on their side up to date with what was happening.
"Hey Cap," Sam asked, running to keep up with Steve. "How do we know the good guys from the bad guys?"
"If they're shooting at you they're bad."
Sam enable his suit and took off while Steve jumped below. He did not expect who would be waiting for him.
---
"He's personally asked for you to take Cap down," one of the Hydra agents said to Cosima. "After you take him down, go to the other man, Sam. Take them down by any means necessary. If you fail, there will be consequences."
Cosima gave a curt nod before gliding along the air with her wings outstretched. She quickly located Captain America, grabbed her guns and began firing at him from a distance. These men were right. Captain was preventing the world from the peace it deserved. He needed to be stopped, along with anyone helping him. These men had told her everything, and she needed to do her part in the world right now to make it right.
Cosima knew she had to get closer to Captain America if she was to succeed in her mission. She glided along to where he was. There was already men on the ground trying to stop him, but Cosima knew that her and Soldier were the only ones gifted enough to try and stop the advanced super solider. An explosion by Cap caught her off guard and caused her to fly backwards into a radio tower. She fell to the ground, more determined than ever to find Cap again and take him out.
---
Alexander Pierce looked out at the first helicarrier as he saw Sam flying around it. He wished he had sent Cosima after him rather than Cap, but he couldn't risk the Winter Soldier having another flashback preventing him from finishing the Captain off.
He turned back to his guests. "Let me ask you a question. What if Pakistan marched into Mumbai tomorrow? And you knew they were going to drag your daughters into a soccer stadium for execution." He singled out one of the guests. He gave him a champagne glass. Pierce continued. "And you could just stop it. With the flick of a switch. Would you?" He turned to all his guests and eyed them up. He already knew the answer he was expecting. "Would you all?"
The guest with the champagne glass spoke up bravely, "Not if it was your switch." He threw the champagne glass down on the ground. The silence was broken by the pieces of glass shattering all across the floor. He stared angrily at Pierce.
Pierce laughed, knowing what was to come. He grabbed a gun off one of his soldiers and aimed it at the man.
Suddenly, the woman beside him kicked her fellow guest out of the way. She grabbed Pierce's arm, punched his face and threw his gun out of the way, hitting a member of the strike team. She launched some shocking device at another member of the strike team. She took down all the other members of the team down single-handedly. She took one of the guns lying around her and pointed it at Pierce. He looked dumbfounded.
The woman touched her ear and her whole face began to shift into another persons. Natasha's face was staring back at Pierce. She took off her wig and said, "I'm sorry. Did I step on your moment?"
Pierce froze.
