"Thank you for your time." I shook Mr. Salvador's hand, the private investigator.
He gave a short nod. "I will get back to you as soon as possible."
I shook my head, and said my goodbye. Sean walked him out of the restaurant. He was the one who introduced me to Mr. Salvador. He's a family friend of theirs. Mr. Salvador promised to do everything he can to help. I was somehow glad to hear that. I could use all the help to dig into the past.
Sean came back. "You alright?" He sat down beside me.
"Definitely."
"Good." Sean's phone vibrated. He opened it, and read the text. After reading the text, he shut his phone off and put it down on the table. He took a deep breath.
"What is it?" I asked.
Sean rolled his eyes. "Ava..."
"What about Ava?"
"She signed me up on the 2 on 2 volleyball tournament with Jace."
I chuckled. "What's so bad about that?"
He rolled his eyes again. "Everything about it. I haven't played volleyball since high school. What was she thinking?" he whined. "Wait, the tournament is on the 26th, same day as your---"
"Birthday." I finished his sentence. I knew what he was about to ask next. Before he asked, I already answered,"and no, I don't have plans yet."
He smirked. "You're fast."
"Jace asked me the same question." I rolled my eyes. A while later, Sean and I decided to go back to the hotel. We were walking down in the lobby when we saw Connor walking his way to the pool. He returned to our direction when he saw us. "Hey," Sean and I greeted him.
"Hey. I heard you're joining the volleyball tournament," he says to Sean.
Sean scratched his head. "Well... I guess. My sister signed me up. Anyway, I should go. I'll see you guys around."
I nodded, and said my goodbye to Sean. As soon as he left, Connor glared at me. "What?" I asked.
"How was your date with Sean?" he teased.
I smacked his arm playfully. "Shut up."
"What? You and Sean had been going out alot lately. It can't be just a typical, friendly hang out."
I raised my eyebrows. "And why can't it be? Not all girls and boys who spends time together are dating."
"Actually, most of the time the- ---"
He was about to continue, when I gave him a peck in the cheek. "Don't obsess with me and Sean," I joked. Connor scoffed, and shook his head in disagreement. "I will see you later." I said my goodbye to Connor. He went back to work, while I headed back in my room. I was about to open my door when I saw Olivia walking towards me. "Yes?" I asked when she was near.
Olivia smiled, awkwardly. "Sorry to bother you, but Mr. Anderson wanted me to check up on you."
I scoffed. "Wow, now he checks up on me. Well, tell him that I'm fine." Olivia and I continued to talk for a while about my father, and his expectations. He is still expecting me to help Jace with their new business. Olivia left after, and I decided to rest.
Hours later, I woke up when I heard knocks on the door. I got up from my bed, and tied my hair back. Connor was behind the door when I opened it. He was holding grocery bags. I looked at him confused. "Sorry. I was asleep. What are those for?" I asked.
Connor entered, and he placed the bags down in the kitchen. "I figured you're probably sick of the food here, so a homemade dinner would be nice."
I chortled. "Oh, you know how to cook?"
"I live alone, so yes I do know how to cook."
"Right. Okay. That's... Hm... Nice."
Connor rolled his eyes, and began cooking. I sat down by the island in the kitchen to watch him. Connor started preparing the ingredients. He cut all the vegatables he was bringing, and began seasoning the chicken.
"What are you cooking?" I asked.
"Chicken Enchiladas. You wanna help?"
"Oh no... I'm good here." I chuckled.
Connor sautéed onion and garlic in chicken drippings until it was tender. He then added more ingredients. "You know this is Mikael's favourite? Anna would always cook enchiladas whenever Mikael would get upset. Just a taste, and all is well."
"That's cute. Did Anna taught you how to cook?"
Connor pulled apart the chicken breast into shredded strips. He added the chicken strips to the saute pan, and combined it with vegetables. "Yes. My mom also taught me few things. But I learned more from Anna, given a longer a time."
"Right. I'm sorry about your mom."
Connor smiled. "It's fine."
He continued cooking, while I went on with our conversation. While we were waiting for the enchiladas to cook, Connor and I talked about the volleyball tournament. It happens every year where locals and tourists comes together to play against each other. An area will be crowded. Drinks will be served. And most importantly, profits will be given to charities.
When the enchilada was cooked, Connor garnished with parsley, green onion, tomatoes and sour cream before serving. He took out plates, and began serving me.
"It smells good." Connor gave me a plate. I tasted it. "Ow. This is delicious." I grabbed more, and fed Connor. "I missed eating homemade food."
"Which is why you should learn how to cook."
"Yup. I already found a chef who could teach me." I winked.
Connor laughed. "Is he good-looking?"
"Very." I nodded.
