Gemma woke up before Margaret so she decided to get out of her hospital bed and slowly walked over to the door that separated there room from the hallway. Gemma looked back at Margaret and noticed she was still sleeping. She slowly walked out into the hallway trying not to make a lot of noise. Gemma turned a corner and saw a sign that read 'Cafeteria' She started walking towards it."Holy crap that's a lot of snacks to choose from." Gemma whispered to herself walking into the cafeteria.
She walked up to a counter tracing her fingers along the marble top. 'So smooth' she thought to herself. Then she spotted a rack filled with fruit, a vending machine for snacks and drinks, some chip bags that weren't open and were placed in a bowl. Gemma quickly grabbed two bags of chips, an apple for Margaret and a banana for herself. As she was walking back to her room someone stopped her by saying.
"That's quiet a handful you've got there." It was a males voice. Gemma spun around to see who the person was. She didn't say anything and simply nodded starting to slowly turn around again.
"Wait, I'm Lucas." The boy said smiling. Gemma turned around and looked at him a little closer. He had a tan complexion with dark shaggy brown hair, and hazel eyes. Lucas was pretty tall and looked to be muscular in a sense. He had a cast on his left arm, in all honesty Gemma didn't think he was bad looking.
"Gemma." She said quietly replying to Lucas. He told her his name so why shouldn't she tell him hers?
"What a pretty name for such a pretty girl." Lucas flirted. Gemma blushed lightly.
"H-how old are you cause I'm 17..." Gemma says hesitantly. She thinks he's younger or maybe older. She can't tell.
"18. So anyways, why are you here? You seem to be just fine." Lucas looks at Gemma waiting for an answer.
"Why are you in here?" Gemma asks him soon after he asks her only because she didn't want him to know she came from an orphanage.
"I broke my arm while diving for a football during practice, no biggie. Now tell me, why are you here?" Lucas asks again. Gemma looks down embarrassed.
"I-I um uh, well I came from an orphanage that uh recently just burned down, and well after they put the fire out they didn't search the place. So to answer your question... I'm here because my friend cut her head open and has a broken leg." Gemma finishes telling the boy why she's there, Immediately regretting it because he didn't say anything to her. Lucas just stared at the girl.
"I'm sorry about your friend. I should let you get back to her, if you need anything my room number is 306 just down the hall." He said smiling warmly.
"M-mine is 302." Gemma quickly said turning around and walking towards her room and saw that Margaret was finally awake. Gemma walked over to a side table that was close to there beds and set down the food she got.
"What did you get?" Margaret asks looking over at the side table.
"Food." Gemma answers. Margaret's eyes widen and she sits up immediately regretting it when her head starts to throb in pain.
"Margaret calm down I'll get you some food. Just lay down." Gemma said calmly. Margaret nods and lay her head down on her pillow. Gemma grabs a bag of chips and the apple and walks over to Margaret's bed handing her the food.
"Thank you." Margaret smiles lightly. Gemma returns a smile and grabs her own bag of chips and her banana starting to eat. The two girls eat in silence not knowing what to talk about. Eventually they finished the chips and fruit, Gemma got up and collected there trash throwing it in the waste bin on the other side of the room. When Gemma went to sit down the door to there hospital room opened.
