{Two weeks later}
Gemma and Margaret have been living off of bottled water and stale bread. "I don't know how much longer I can do this." Margaret sighs. "Are they ever gonna come back up for us?" She asks. "I've given up on the thought of them coming back up for us." Gemma says. Margaret looks around for something to do. Being a teenager and growing up in an orphanage with not a lot of toys really let's your brain turn on it's creative side. "...Wanna build a card board box fort?" Margaret suggests looking at Gemma and then towards the boxes. Gemma smiles. "We might as well, it's not like we have anything better to do." The two girls walk over to the beaten up boxes and dust them of with there hands. "Okay, so how are we gonna do this?" Gemma asks. "Well I was thinking we'd p-" Margaret was cut off by the faint sound of an alarm. "What's going on?" Gemma asks in a panic. "That sounds like the fire alarm." Margaret says while both girls hear the stomping of many feet running down stairs and through hallways trying to get out of the building. Margaret runs over to the attic door and starts to pound on it. "Help! Help! There are two girls up here and we're locked in! Help!" She yells. Soon Gemma starts to help pound on the door too. Both girls are yelling for help even louder than before, there voices start to get horse. "It- it's no use Gem... we should back away from the attic before the smoke starts to rise all the way up here." Margaret says. "...But there's gotta be a way we can get out, I- this isn't the way I wanted to go, this isn't the way I wanted US to go." Gemma says putting empathizes on 'us' and using her hands to motion between the two of us. "Well this is how fate wants to take us down.. then so be it. We can tough it out as much as possible but there's no guarantee we'll make it that long." Having said that, the smoke starts to rise up to the attic.
One thing that no one knew the whole time in the orphanage was that the orphan nanny had toxic chemicals all over the orphanage and all that waste that the girls have consumed through the air that they are breathing and the fire that is activating it, will be the protection yet a danger to the girls. More and more fumes keep surfacing and rising up to the attic, the walls are starting to peel, and the floor is getting extremely hot. "Gem- I-I'm not feeling to good.." Margaret says. Gemma grabs Margaret's shoulder and says. "No, you have to hold it together, maybe there is help on the way- like the fire men.. maybe- th-" And with that Gemma had inhaled to many of the fumes and Margaret was on the verge. Gemma had passed out falling on top of Margaret causing her to collapse on a soft part of the floor making it fall apart. The two girls were falling. Falling to where they knew they probably weren't gonna make it. The last thing Margaret remembers is hitting her head on something soft yet hard enough to knock her out fully.
{A/N because Margaret was in a state where she could tell what was going on, just not fully. so yes, Gemma passed out before Margaret and Margret just passed out... idk if any of you were confused about that or not XD}
>>> Gemma's POV <<<
Everything was black. I couldn't see anything. I couldn't hear anything except for the faint sound of ringing in my ears. 'Where am I?' I thought to myself trying to pat around my surroundings. I felt something almost like fabric, but it was covered in something that felt like sand and rocks. I kept feeling around and noticed that there was a stuff om top of me, so I felt what it was, realizing it was pieces of wood I grabbed them and tossed them off me. After what felt like hours, {It's only been a few minutes} I could finally start to see my surroundings. It was then I remembered that there was a fire, and that I had passed. I automatically started to panic looking around for Margaret and noticed that the piece of fabric I felt earlier was actually Margaret. I started to shake her, but gently in case she had any severe bruises.
>>> 3rd Persons POV <<<
Gemma started to lightly take off all the fallen debris that was on Margaret. Gemma was trying her best to move but her ankle kept acting up so she had to sit down. After Gemma thought her ankle was rested enough Gemma continued to remove the fallen wood and dry wall that was laying over Margaret. After Margaret was completely uncovered from the debris Gemma just sat and waited, hoping her best and only friend was still alive. Gemma kept leaning down to Margaret and checking to see if she was still breathing. She was, but it was very faint. Gemma thought that maybe the should go and get some help but decided against it. She wanted to be with Margaret and make sure nothing bad happens to her while she's gone. Gemma eventually got bored and started drawing things in the dirt/dust.
