Grandma Wei was sitting quietly in her front porch sipping her oolong tea and chewing on some sweet buns when a young woman ran to her holding a object she couldn't clearly see as her left eye was blind. The old woman squinted her tired brown eyes to try recognise the familiar face, she was hoping it was her granddaughter Bao.

"Bao is that you my dear?" Grandma Wei asked the young woman who sat down next to her.
"No unfournately grandma it's me your servant Bing but I have something for you from young Miss Bao", Bing said handing the old lady a scroll.

"Ah Bing how are you my dear! Will you please read what's written inside of this scroll for me?" Said the grandma giving the scroll back to Bing.

"Dear grandma it's me your precious Gem, Bao I am writing to you to inform you that I will not be home for awhile as I am busy with missionary work in the West province I've always wanted to help the poor. Please forgive me for writing to you so late the work here has been keeping me busy but I have finally found the right time to send you this letter, I met father and Hong on my way to the West they are in the East battling the Turks they wanted me to tell you not to worry about them and they'll come home with a victorious win! Please take care of yourself grandma I will be home soon I promise, make sure you take all your medication and get enough sleep.
I love you always,
Wei Bao•"

"Bing do you really believe what Bao has written in that letter? There is something not right about it!" Grandma Wei said patting her grey  hair that was tied in a tight bun.
"What do you mean Grandma do you not believe that young Miss wrote this?" Bing asked uncertain.

"Bao definitely wrote this letter I can tell by the writing what I don't believe is the content written on it", the grandma said sipping her tea.
"We will wait for another letter and see what she has to say but for now we must prepare you Grandma there are important guests coming from the grand palace to visit you", Bing said helping the grandma up.

"Which guests? Is it that useless emperor? Or could it be that sly Consort Kang? Perhaps it's that one that always comes here crying clutching my skirts what's her name again?"
"You mean Consort Yi?"
"Ah yes her there is something oddly familiar about that one it's like I've seen her before in the past but my dementia stops me from remembering exactly who she is".

Once Bing had helped Grandma Wei dress in her formal attire they sat in the Wei manors parlour waiting for the guest from the palace.
"Make way for Consort Kang with her daughter Princess Li Ping!" Shouted an eunuch outside from the entrance of the manor.
Bing stood up bowing when the two women entered the parlour.

"Grandma Wei how lovely to see you today I hope you are well, today I have brought to you my lovely daughter Ping to present to you as I am hoping she will marry your grandson Hong once he returns from war", Consort Kang said slightly lowering her head in respect of the old lady.
"Grandma Wei your honourable grand  daughter Li Ping is honoured to meet you today I have brought you gifts from across the continent, I present to you cherry blossom seeds from Japan, incense from India, and finally ginseng from Korea", Princess Ping said bowing respectfully as her maids placed the gifts next to the old woman.

"I can't accept these gifts unfortunately as that would mean I am allowing you to marry my grandson Hong which I am not unfortunately as Hong is betrothed to the youngest daughter of the Zhang clan, Lady Zhang Shuki", The old woman said patting Pings back.
"Zhang clan? As in the Empress' family? Right I guess we are too late Ping we will have to find you a eligible suitor somewhere else", Consort Kang said annoyed the Empress was one step ahead of her.

Ping let out fake sob pretending to be upset that grandma Wei rejected her but Deep down Ping felt relieved that her wedding
arrangements would be postponed as a special man has already stolen her heart.

"Lady Kang I heard that your eldest son Prince Chen is still unmarried? Well my granddaughter Wei Bao is away on missionary work and she is still unmarried and I believe his highness would be suitable for my granddaughter! What do you think?", the grandmother suggested in a tempting manner.

Consort Kang paused for a moment trying think if she really wanted her only son to marry a Wei she had hoped he'd marry someone from a much more powerful family such as the Yangs but then again the Weis where still very powerful enough to earn more political favours for her son Chen to ascend the throne.
She made eye contact with Grandma Wei who had a suggestive look on her face.

"I think that's a lovely idea grandma! I will inform the emperor right away about this engagement, this will great union for both families!" Consort Kang said delighted.
