Another week has passed, and Shea hasn't left her father's side since then. They talked day, and night about what he's been up to before things went down hill. He's talked about Shea's future plans, and what colleges she was thinking about applying for. He told her she should go to New York or Chicago like she's always talked about, but Shea argued about staying near home with her mother.
Soon her father shifts gears from current situations to future situations, but this time taking himself out of the equation. "Your mother will be taken care of don't you worry about that." Shea's father states before letting out a heavy cough once again making the whole room shake.
Shea's heart breaks at the play on words he used. Referring to the fact he won't be there to take care of her. Her stomach drops to the ground, "I love you dad." Shea states with a shaky voice. He looks at her with a straight face as always showing no emotion, "Shea come here." He blinks as she scoots closer in her chair. He takes her hand in his before looking up at the mess of a girl sitting before him, "You'll always be my little soldier no matter how much you resent it, but it's time for you to put on your brave face for your mother." Shea nods her head, "Can you do that?" Shea nods her head in silence as she feels her chest heave with pressure.
Once her mother enters the room Shea bottles everything up, and exits the room making her way towards the bathroom. She slams a stall door behind her then begins to uncontrollably sob with her face in her hands as everything starts turning black from her eye liner. Shea reaches into her bag, and automatically dials Sasha's number but is sent straight to voice mail.
"This is Sasha leave a message after the beep."- Beeeeeeeep
Shae shivers with anxiety, and frustration, "Hey uhm... you said you'd be there no matter what. And right now I just- I really need you." Shea sighs for a second in between sentences then goes back to talking as her voice becomes shaky again, "Maybe it's my own fault for relying on anyone other than myself." She sobs into the phone before pressing end.
Shea just sits on the toilet seat in the abandoned bathroom with her arms crossed, and knees tightly pressed together. Her sobs just turn into whimpers after a while digging her nails into each of her arms attempting to suppress the cracking she feels in her chest, and stomach.
Her mother finally forces her to take the bus home. Shea refuses at first, "I need to discuss some things with your father. Go home and get some rest." Shea exhales before walking down the narrow hallway that would eventually lead her outside. The sun shines down on her tired eyes she holds her hand up as an attempt at shielding herself from the blinding light.
