Luke's POV

I drive away from Avery's house but only to park about 4 houses down form hers. I know damn well that things aren't going to go well so I'm not going to leave that easily.

As I wait, I start to worry. I keep thinking the worst is going to happen. All these what if's flow through my mind and before I can even think, I feel my feet drag out of the car, heading to Avery's house. I feel like I just need to be there to protect her. Avery sure is strong but I feel when it comes to here dad, she just loses it all. Hope, strength, love, all goes out of her system and just leaves her a broken wreck.

I head to Avery's backyard. and start climbing up a tree that leads to her room. I swear, this shit looks like it comes from a stupid, cliché chick flick where the guy goes and gets his girl. I however, am not doing that; I'm just trying to make sure a friend is okay. I finally find a part of the tree where I can easily get a view into Avery's window comfortably. I just sit there and wait until I either see a beautiful face or a beautiful face drained with tears. I pray it's the first option. If she's not crying, I'll leave and act like I didn't do this shit but if she is, here I come to the rescue.

...

A few minutes pass and I see Avery slam her door behind her as tears run down her face uncontrollably. I can't bare the sight of Avery like this. Something falls from her wall and she quickly grabs it and holds it closer to her causing her to sob even more. I quickly try to push the window open but it doesn't budge one bit. I stumble to grab my phone to send her a text since this window is too damn hard to open.

*Open your window.* I send and I quickly see her grab her phone out of her pocket and read my message.

Once she looks towards the window, I can tell she is broken, and she needs someone to fix her. I hope I can do that for her as I'm pretty fucked up myself. She runs towards the window and hurriedly opens the window. Once I'm in, I pull her into a hug and it immediately soaks my shirt.

"I thought you left." She whimpers into my shirt like she always does during hugs but her voice sounds so strained, so broken. It's not my usual smart ass Avery, it's the Avery I hate to see.

"Avery, I would never just leave you like that. I just parked down the street. I knew shit would happen but I'm here for you know." I assure her.

"Thank you." She says and it causes me to smile a bit in the room full of gloom.

"All that matters is that I'm here now." I reply as I pull her into my chest closer.

We stay like that before she speaks again.

"Can w- we lay do-" She can't complete her sentence through her sobs.

"You want to lay down?" I ask so I make sure I heard her correctly as she nods her head to confirm.

"With me?" I ask as she nods once again.

She scrambles from my grip and instantly pulls her pants off.

"I'm going to sleep like this, so don't get any ideas." She says but I can still tell she is sad as her tears still rush down her face.

"I'll try not to get any." I smirk trying to lighten the mood but fail miserably. She doesn't even smile, she looks like she wants to cry more. Before I can apologize or anything, she climbs into her small twin size bed and pulls my arm to join her. I obey as she lays her body on top of mine due to the smallness of the bed. She still cries into my shirt and I really have no fucking idea how to fix this.

"I'm sorry I'm a mess." She sniffles as she looks up to my face.

"Don't worry about it." I reply as I try to wipe her tears away. It's stupid I know but hey, it might work.
