Chapter 18: Unexpected meeting
I strolled down the cart along the aisle of the meat section of the grocer. She was picking up and examining the meat we need to get buy for whole week. She told me that she will be the preparing food for us. How sweet? I was in a disguise that moment. I wore something an ordinary people usually wear: jeans and a t-shirt, topping it with a sweater to get off the cold, a sunglasses and a cap. This is what I normal do when going out, hoping not to be seen by the press. And she wore . . . amazing. I didn’t know what exactly I was thinking because she was wearing a black leggings and a denim short and a sweater covering the tank top she was wearing inside. But she looked so awesome in every way. Then I remember last night, when we were still in my place.
“Tim, we should stock some food around here!” She shouted. I was putting our things in my room. I didn’t know if it was right. We already slept together last night. Maybe we were drunk that time but I knew that we both wanted it to happen.
“Let Jake do it.” I shouted back.
“Tim, I think I better be the one do the shopping.” she insisted.
“But it was cold outside. And it was tiring chore.” I complained. As I finished, I changed to a comfortable shirt and jeans.
“It was just me. Not you, remember?” she said. I went out of the bedroom looking at her with her hand on her waist.
I went closer to her and slid my hands around her waist and pulled her closer to mine. “Hmm…Well, as you insist…” I trailed off. “Wait.” I went much closer and whisper to her ears. “Let’s do it together.” She bit her lips. I distanced myself and faced her. “Tomorrow?”
She smiled and giggled. “Sure.” she hugged me and said “I’m starving. Let’s eat outside?”
“Okay.” I said. “I’m craving for something spicy.” I licked my lower lips and held her hand as we go out of my place.
We went to Thai restaurant near the building. There were only few people dining. I ordered a spicy noodle soup to soothe the coldness of the weather. She ordered same as mine since she wasn’t familiar with Thai food. While waiting for our order, I asked her some questions. She seemed lost in her thoughts while we were in the car. I couldn’t figure out what she’s thinking those times.
“Are you really that quiet?” I asked her. She turned her eyes on me.
“No. Why?” she answered asking back.
“Well . . . You seem lost in your thoughts. Are you worried?” I gazed at her looking directly into her beautiful face.
“hmm . . . that . . . well . . . yes.” She said hesitantly. I wondered what worries her so much. I was about to ask her again when she continued. “Tim. I’ll be frank with you.” I was nervous. She might spit out something that I don’t want to hear yet and that is I don’t know and doesn’t figured it out yet. “I’m kind of worried. We . . . I mean.” She trailed off. Our food was being served at the moment. “We better eat these because I’m starving.” She smiled and focused on her noodles soup. I stared at her intently. She must be worried a lot. I wanted to ask her again but I’m scared that I might pulled out something I don’t want to happen yet. She looked at me again and said “Your heart might get full by just staring at me but not your tummy.” She giggled. I looked at my food and eat heartily.
We had been quiet for a while we’re eating. I was still waiting for her to speak but I’m afraid to ask. I just finished my bowl of soup and waited for her to finish too. The night was still young but I was so tired to go on. She must be tired too. We left the restaurant without saying much to each other. We were quiet when we got back at my place. As we were in the lift, she held my hand and faced me. I stared at her beautiful eyes and waited for her to speak.
“Tim, thank you very much.” She leaned on and reach my cheeks and gave me a peck. When she distanced, I smiled at her. It relieved the tension between us. “Thank you for everything. I am so happy” she continued.
“I am also.” With that I slid my hands to her waist and kissed her fully. It was sweet kiss. We stayed like that until the lift’s door opened at my unit. We went inside and went to the bedroom. She stopped at the entrance of my bedroom. I knew she was hesitant. I went to her closely and held left hand and kissed it. She looked at me and smiled.
“Let’s sleep. I know you’re tired.” She went in to organize her things and I went to my walk-in closet. I change to pajamas which I don’t usually wear but I want her to be comfortable. When I came out she was in the bed, talking in the phone.
“Yes, Mom.” She said. “Yes. I’ll be fine here. It will be just a week or two. It depends.” She listened. “Okay I will. Don’t worry. I’ll call you soon. I have to sleep now. I’m really tired Mom. I love you and tell Dad I love him too.” “See you soon.” She put down the phone at the night stand table. She looked at me and smiled.
“That’s your Mom?” I asked.
“She called to keep tabbing on me.” She smiled to herself.
“You are a sweet angel.” I teased her. I scooted beside her and laid my head. I was really tired that I could feel my eyes falling. She leaned on and gave me a kiss in the forehead.
“Good night.” She said. That was the first time I felt warm. Her kiss was so heartwarming that I felt so secure and home. I was like when my Mom tucked me when I was going to sleep. I missed my mom and my parents. I think I must visit them. It has been a long time.
She waved her hand in front of my face.
“You’re lost in thoughts while staring at me again. Am I that beautiful?” she laughed at her words. I smiled at her. The cart was full with all kind of stuff.
“How are we going to eat this all?” I asked.
“You’ll see.” She smiled at me.
We got almost everything in the store. I didn’t know what she’s going to do with all of these but I knew she has a plan. I never had gone to grocery store to buy food for myself. It was always Jake or someone. Even Olivia was not into shopping at the grocer. Back then, we always ate outside or eat instant food or ordered outside. She didn’t like cooking. She always complained of the things I want to. I realized how I missed home cooked foods.
As we went to the cashier, someone recognized me and for a few second I was surrounded with a crowd. She just smiled and went on paying our things. When the crowd loosen, I went to pick up everything. She went first outside and put some at the car. When I was putting everything, she ran immediately to the old woman who had a hard time opening her car and spilled her purchased things when the paper bag torn. It must be that heavy. When I’m finished, I walked towards them and maybe help them also. They were finished putting her things inside the car when I got there. I heard the old woman being grateful to her.
“Amy, darling.” I said. She looked at me and smiled.
“Yes darling.” The old woman looked at me and smiled. I was stunned.
“Oh! Tim.” She said.
“Mom?” I asked.
