[Emery]
I stood in front of the door, frozen. My brother's house was nice, small, good for a couple in their twenties. It was homey.
But I couldn't gather up the courage to go inside.
Sam and Dean stood on both sides of me. It was getting a little cold outside. I hesitated yet again. My stomach was in knots. I felt Dean's hand on my shoulder.
"Babe, it's alright. They're gonna love you. It's impossible to hate that stellar personality. You are gonna be okay," he whispered gently in my ear. "Want me to knock?"
"I got it," I said as I quickly knocked twice. Dean's words helped a bit.
We waited a moment before the door opened.
A young man stood there, with bright green eyes and blonde hair-- like mine. He was taller than I remember, and must have passed me up. He smiled, and it lit up his whole face. He wore jeans and a grey t-shirt, and had a very certain cuteness about him.
"Hey," Luke said gently. He smiled. "Em."
I didn't know if he would want to hug or whatever, but he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around me. I hugged him back.
"Luke," I grinned. "I'm so sorry."
"It's alright. You're here now." He said as he took a step back. "These must be the Winchesters?"
"Yeah. This is Sam and that's Dean."
Luke shook both their hands. The boys seemed happy enough.
"Good to meet you," Dean smiled.
"Same here," Luke said. "You wanna come in?"
I nodded and smiled. He opened the door wider and gestured for us to come in.
The door opened into a small hallway right next to a staircase. The walls were a bright shade of blue. The hallway led to a living room on the left and a kitchen straight ahead.
"Nice place," I smiled. "You did well for yourself."
"I used some of the inheritance to get things going," Luke shrugged. "Plus everything at work is going great. That's why I moved out here. Lots of awesome job opportunities."
"What do you do?" Sam asked politely.
"I'm an engineer," Luke said. "I mostly design parts for automobiles, jets, trains, that kinda thing."
"That's awesome," Dean said.
"Yeah I love it," Luke grinned. "How do you guys make a living?"
We all hesitated. "That's actually the complicated thing," I said. "Typically we investigate paranormal cases, stuff like that."
"Oh," Luke said awkwardly. "I forgot that's why you went off."
"That's not exactly why, Luke-"
"How about we sit down and discuss all this over dinner?" Sam smiled.
"Yeah, I think that'd be best," Dean said.
Luke nodded. "Dining room's right this way. I hope pizza's alright. I ordered it about twenty minutes ago."
"That's perfect," I smiled.
When we walked into the small dining room, I saw a woman about Luke's age setting some plates down on the table. She looked up. She was beautiful, with long, brown hair and piercing blue eyes.
"Hey," she smiled and looked at me. "You must be Emery. I'm April. It's great to meet you. Luke goes on and on about his big sister."
She walked over and shook my hand.
