I stalked through the house after grabbing the first clothes, that didn’t involve a skirt, I could find. I walked on the tips of my toes diligently, watchful. If either Eric or Raphael found me, I knew they’d try to for- convince me to stay. The house was dead silent, the only breaths I could hear being my own.
I made my way down the long, narrow hallway until I found the stairs, strategically having been placed as far away from my room as possible. You could say I was no longer under the illusion that they simply wanted to keep me safe – not that I had been under that illusion to start with. The stairs creaked under my feet as I slowly made my decent; Eric cold be down there waiting to stop me. I kind of expected him to be sitting there, a smug look on his face as he tried to prevent me from leaving.
To my surprise, and delight, there was no one downstairs either. I almost felt insulted that they thought so little of me that they left me completely alone. Did they really think that I’d stay behind like an idle doll, waiting until it was my turn to be played with again?
Before heading out the door, I paused to leave them a note. It was the least I could do. For all their faults, they had saved and fed me. I grabbed the first book I could find, tore our one of the back pages with less words on it, and searched until I found something to scribble with.
Dear Raphael & Eric,
While I do appreciate your help over the past couple of days, I regret to inform you that I can no longer stay here. I’ve been life to by too many people, used by too many people to allow that to happen again.
Whatever you guys are hiding from me, I guess now I will never know. But I don’t even care anymore. Find another toy to play with and another girl to fulfill your hidden agendas.
Sincerely,
Lana <3
I placed the note on the stair rails and headed for the front door. I spared one last glance at the house before opening it and heading out. Freedom was mine. My life would now be in my own hands.
There was just one slight little problem.
I had no idea where I was.
