Chapter 8

Nick was standing next to Sam and Jason. I walked over to Jaida and Nikki who were standing next to the guys. They both gave me a look that clearly said 'we-need-to-talk'. Nick hadn't noticed I had arrived yet but Jason and Sam did and they were both looking at me nervously and back and Nick obviously worried about his reaction once he noticed. Of course their idiotic moves drew more attention to the fact and I quickly averted my gaze as Nick started to turn.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Nick quickly say goodbye to the guys and leave the cafeteria. Did he have to be so childish? I mean, he won't be able to do that during class. I finally reached Nikki and Jaida who were now joined by Jason and Sam waiting for me. I was immediately bombarded with questions.

"What the hell happened?" Jaida exclaimed pulling me into a hug.

"Dude, what's going on?" Jason asked.

"Are you okay?" Sam said.

"What did he do?" Nikki asked soothingly.

"We broke up," I said slowly as they watched with greedy and concerned eyes. "It obviously wasn't working."

"He doesn't think that," Jason said sticking up for Nick.

"It's over, okay?" I said before slinging my backpack back over my shoulders and walked out of the cafeteria just as Nick had done.

"Hey are you okay?" the voice that I was longing to hear said from behind me.

I threw myself into his arms and he held me tightly and securely and I felt okay.

"You're going to be happy," I muttered into his chest.

"Why would I be happy when you are upset?" he asked confusedly.

"Nick and I broke up," I sighed.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," he said a little too quickly.

I pulled away. "You can be happy, I know it's what you wanted. It wasn't working out."

"Are you upset?"

"Not because we broke up but because of the pain it caused him. I've never seen him so unhappy, in so much pain," I said shaking my head.

"We'll talk about this later," he said giving me another hug before heading off to class as the warning bell sounded through the halls full of students.

I ran off to class and again ignored everyone with the excuse of having my iPod loudly playing in my ears. Taylor had been so comforting and I was longing for his safe haven that was his presence. I kept glancing anxiously up at the clock every couple seconds wanting my first class to be over already. I wanted this day to be over already and not want to face Nick.

Finally the bell rang letting me run out of the classroom and across campus. The heat today was close to unbearable and it was grossly humid. I knew a big storm was coming tonight; I always knew.

I walked into Chemistry and saw Sam who looked as if he was anxiously watching for me. Now he just looked concerned.

"Hey Kay," he said trying to be careful.

"Hi Sam, what's up?" I said lightly.

"Nothing much. I know you were overwhelmed this morning with all of us asking you questions and stuff, but what happened?! I am your best friend, and Jaida is too, we want to know," he said slowly.

"I know, I wanted to tell you and Jaida but I couldn't call you last night and I couldn't do it while everyone was there," I said.

"That's okay, so what happened?" Sam said as Taylor came to sit down. Then he suddenly added, "Maybe you should call me later."
