Chapter 14

"So what does your dress look like?" It was Saturday morning - the morning of the fundraiser - and we were sitting on the dam at the lake.

"No way, you have to wait and see." I stuck my tongue out at him.

"Please! It's not a wedding, we're not bride and groom. There's no bad luck if I know what the dress looks like before the event," he pouted.

"You wouldn't be able to picture it if I told you."

"Then let's go home now and you can try it on for me."

"Sure, let's go home," I winked having a sudden idea.

He hopped up. "Or maybe you don't have to put it on..."

I gave him a death glare and then laughed. "Now you're definitely not going to see the dress."

"What?"

"I'm going to be pushing you out the door as soon as... Well it seems to be now because Jaida and Nikki are waiting for me in the driveway. Go home and get ready, love you baby." I spotted them leaning against Nikki's beat up convertible. It belonged to her older brother, but now that he got a different car this one was Nikki's. Both of them had their hair in high buns and no make-up on; clean pallets to get ready for a make-over.

"Where were you missy?!" Jaida exclaimed. "We have work to do!"

"Love you," he frowned and he kissed me. I felt he was putting on a show for them, to show them that he loved me more and I giggled against his lips but he didn't stop.

There were cheers from the peanut gallery.

"Taylor," I laughed as he kissed my neck. "I've go to go!"

I finally pushed him off and he smiled his goofy grin and I smiled back. Then he jogged to his car and peeled out of my driveway speeding down the road at a break neck pace.

"Tone down the PDA, why don't you?" Nikki laughed.

"Shut up." I was blushing now. "Let's go get ready."

They fell in step behind me, dresses and make-up in hand, and we quickly rushed up stairs. We spread everything out on my bed and my dresser.

"Hair first, then make-up. We'll finish off with the dress and the shoes and accessories," Jaida concluded. Her expression was deep in thought and she had a certain business feel about her. This was her element, she loved getting dressed up.

"How are you doing your hair?" I asked.

"I was thinking half-up half down. I'm not sure if I should do it curled, or straightened," Nikki answered playing with her hair in the mirror.

"Straight. Your hair is so long that it will look silky and go with your dress," Jaida said studying Nikki. Even un-straightened it was mid-back.

I nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I wish I had your hair."

"Are you kidding me, Kay? Your hair is naturally straight, I wish I had that!" Nikki cried.

"Whatever, Jaida how are you doing your hair?" I asked changing the subject.

"I was thinking leaving it curly and then braiding my bangs back." I nodded. Her hair was not the crazy frizzy curl, it was perfect loose ringlets that you think could only be achieved through professional curling. "What about you?"

"Curling it, but pinning part of it back on one side. I'm leaving my bangs down though." They nodded in approval and we got to work.

Nikki brought her straightener as well so both Jaida and I went to straightening her hair while they talked to me about Taylor. I mostly just laughed and nodded. There wasn't much that needed to be said; they knew I was in love even if I didn't admit it right away. We Nikki's hair half up half down after it was impeccably straight.
