Chapter 11

It was understood that Taylor and I were together. We were inseparable; not just in school, but also outside of school as well. The more time I spent with him the deeper and deeper I fell in love with him - although he had no notion of my true feelings. Jaida gushed over him, happy I found someone else.

"Nick was, like, your best friend since forever. This new guys totally perfect for you, you know? He's hot and new and someone I could see you with for a while," she said one day flipping her hair over her shoulder and taking a sip of her piña colada she made us.

"I really like him," I commented swishing my feet around in the hot tub.

"I can tell," she smirked and I rolled my eyes.

"He's mine, so don't go all flirty with him just because he's hot," I joked.

"No promises," she laughed. "No, I totally won't, he is yours."

"Nikki wanted me to set her up with him on his first day. You should've seen her face, she couldn't even talk to him. I love her though," I snickered.

"We all love a good hottie," Jaida giggled.

I just smiled. Then I sighed, I missed Taylor. He was sick and skipped school and I thought hanging out with Jaida would take my mind off of it for a while. I should have known that Jaida would obsess over him and bring up guys which would in turn remind me of him.

"It was one day, you lovebirds need to give it a rest!" she said exasperated when I had mentioned that I missed him.

I stuck my lower lip out, "I can't help it."

She rolled her eyes and smiled, "You're hopeless."

We spent the rest of the Thursday afternoon jumping in and out of the hot tub. The air was turning to a slightly chilly winter air. It was almost December and even though it didn't get that cool down in Louisiana, there were still some chilly days that happened during the season.

"Hello?" I asked while on the phone driving home.

"Kaya? Hey baby," Nick's voice echoed in my head through the phone's speaker sending a rush of warmth that went all the way through my toes.

"Hey. I missed you," I said winding through the back roads leading me home from Jaida's.

"Yeah sorry, I just didn't feel up to going to school today," he said.

"Do you feel better?" I asked biting my lip.

"Yeah, do you think we can hang tomorrow after school? I need a pick me up," he chuckled. It sounded amazing to hear his laugh.

"Of course. Call me tomorrow," I laughed before saying goodbye and hanging up the phone.

"Kay-uh," I heard Hailey whine as I came in through the front door.

"What?" I snapped - it came out more bitter then I intended. I soften my expression, "Sorry, what Hailey?"

She fiddled with the hem of her tight Minnie mouse shirt we had gotten when we visited Disney World last year in Florida. Her brows were raised innocently and she kept looking at her feet. It registered in my head that she was nervous.

"Come on, let's go to my room," I said grabbing her wrist and pulling her up the stairs after me into my room.

We plopped down on my bed and she still wouldn't look me in the eyes. She wanted to talk about girl stuff, I was almost certain. She was afraid because we didn't have the best relationship, I suspected, but she had no one else to turn to.
