Well, this is a surprise.
I raised my eyebrows at Kaiden, expecting him to say more.
"What?" I watched as he bit his lip softly, running his fingers through his dirty blonde hair.
"You're kidding, right?"
"What the hell, Kaylie. Why would I joke about this?"
I shook my head in utter disbelief. "Why would you love me? We've been best friends for years, Kaiden. Nothing more than that!"
I watched as he looked down sadly at his glass of water. "I've loved you for so long, I keep watching you grow up and mature. I've been there for you."
Sighing, I played with my utensils. "Long distance relationships never work out..." I mumbled.
Kaiden rolled his eyes at me. "So? That's other relationships. Ours may be totally different."
I shrugged, playing with the straw that was in my water. "Kaiden... give me some time and space. You can't just spring something on me like this." I whispered.
"This is a f*cking joke. I tell you how I feel and you say you need space? I'm going home, Kaylie. Let me know when you're ready to talk." Kaiden ran his fingers through his hair as he shook his head. I bit my lip softly as I watched him walk out the front door of the restaurant.
God, I'm so stupid. My best friend just poured his heart out to me and I can't even tell him how I feel.
I stood up from the table, and sighed, running my fingers through my long blonde hair.
I walked outside, and began walking down the street. Kaiden took the car home, therefore I have to walk. Luckily it was only a fifteen minute walk.
The night air was cool, and brisk. There was a slight breeze which made my shudder, as I wrapped my arms around my body to try and keep warm.
I sighed, my heels hurting my feet as I walked. Biting my lip softly, I sat down on the nearest metal bench that was on the sidewalk.
My phone lit up, it was not a text from Kaiden. I frowned.
Why did I always have to mess things up? He's always been so good to me. I've always loved him, but now that Dylan came into my life I don't know how I feel anymore. My emotions are through the roof and I've never been so confused about a guy in my life.
I heard footsteps slowing down as they came to the bench as well.
Black shoes.
Khaki pants.
Grey button down shirt.
Blue eyes.
Dylan.
"Kaylie? What are you doing out here this late?" Dylan came to a stop in front of me, looking down at me in concern.
I bit my lip softly, tucking a piece of my blonde hair behind my ear. "I uh, nothing." I mumbled.
He sat down next to me, studying my face. I looked away from him, not liking the attention he was giving me. Like he pitied me.
"Don't lie. You can tell me." His voice rang out, softly. Dylan gently grabbed my face, turning my face to look at him.
"My best friend came into town today. He told me he loves me." I shook my head, looking into his eyes.
Dylan frowned, wiping a tear that escaped from my eye. I didn't even realize I was crying.
"Don't cry, love. Everything will work out in time." He flashed me a small smile, patting my knee softly.
I nodded, looking back down at my lap.
"Here, get up. I know something that'll cheer you up." Dylan grinned, standing up from the bench. He extended his hand out towards me.
I smiled at him, placing my hand in his as I stood up from the bench as well. "Yeah?"
He nodded as we began to walk down the sidewalk once again. "It's only a few minute walk, if you get cold let me know. I'll let you wear my jacket."
Dylan was here. Dylan was being kind towards me. Dylan was being a gentleman.
Dylan was making me happy.
"I'm not too cold as of right now. Thank you, though." I smiled, looking around the dark street that was only lit up with the cute aesthetic lamps.
After walking for a few minutes, we arrived at a small coffee shop called Groovy Beans.
The name was cute. It was obviously family owned.
We walked inside and Dylan led us towards a small two person table in the corner of the cafe.
"Here, have a seat. I'll order us some coffee. I know one that you'll enjoy." He set his coat down on his chair, smiling at me.
I nodded, taking a seat in the chair. I rested my chin on my hand, as I recalled what happened only a half hour ago.
After a few moments, my mind was cleared as the sweet smell of coffee clouded my senses.
"This smells amazing, Dylan." I smiled, staring down at the cappuccino that sat in front of me. It's swirls were perfect.
He nodded, taking a sip of his own coffee. "I know. I come here often by myself or with my little brother. It always cheers him up, so I figured it would cheer you up as well."
Taking a sip of the cappuccino, I closed my eyes as I savored the taste. Pure bliss.
"Where were you going tonight?" I reopened my eyes as I looked at him, the thought just crossing my mind.
He scratched the back of his neck, shaking his head at me. "That's a story for another night, Kaylie."
As the moments went by, we talked about everything that crossed our minds. From our birthdays, to our favorite candy, I knew almost everything about him.
Key word: Almost.
He managed to cheer me up, and with the help of this amazing coffee I knew, Dylan and I had found the perfect spot for our friendship to grow.
The two person table, situated in the corner of the small coffee shop. This will forever be a memory of mine that I will cherish forever.
