meanwhile.

~Yukio's POV~

Rin and I stood outside the room leaning on the wall. I was reading a book before Rin spoke."Yukio?" his face was more serious than I'd ever seen before, "Why are you keeping your distance from Kira?"

"I'm not, I'm just being cautious."

"Of her? She's our sister. She's not going to hurt us, intentionally. It'll be fine as long as we get her flames sealed."

"No...of me. And you. We shouldn't get too attached, she wasn't even meant to come here," I said, keeping my eyes fixed on my book. "She lives in Gehenna, she'll only end up going back there. When she does, it'll be painful...especially if we get attached," I sighed. "We have lived here for 15 years not even knowing she existed. We'll be fine keeping our distance."

"I get that but I can't help but see what our mother would have been like in her. She's our only other relative in the world," Rin leaned back on the wall, "and if she's only here for a little bit, I want to savor every single moment with her. She's the closest we'll ever have to a family."

"I just want to stop you from getting hurt. Rin, please don't get attached. I don't want to see you get hurt for her."

"Just promise you and I will protect her," Rin said, his face turning stern.

"Okay, I will. But a time will come when even I can't protect her," I said informatively. Suddenly, a crash came from inside the room that Kira was in. Both of us sprung into action and rushed in.
The nurse was on one side of the room holding a needle and Kira was on the other side holding a stool as a shield."Keep that thing away from me!" she cried, swinging the stool.

"What's going on here?" I demanded.

"I just tried to take some blood and she went crazy!" the nurse cried, getting slightly emotional.

"Liar! Brother, she's trying to kill me!" Kira said, being hysterical.
I walked over to Kira, she lowered the stool as I placed a hand on her head. She looked so tiny, staring up at me with her shining green eyes. "It's alright, Kira. How about I do it instead?" I smiled and she nodded. The nurse then stumbled out of the room, glad to finally be able to leave.

I turned back to face Kira, my face slightly stern, "Kira, you can't just attack people like that," I sighed, "She was only doing her job."

"B-But, she was trying to kill me," she pouted.

I lifted my hand and went over to the table to get a fresh vial and needle. "Kira, I'll do it instead, okay?"

"Okay," she smiled a little. I walked over and she looked away. I rolled up her sleeve and let her grip my coat as I went to inject the needle. Her flames flared up a little due to the sudden pain but stopped after a couple of seconds. She smiled up at me with a watery grin, "Thank you, big brother."

"You're welcome," I said as I put a small plaster over the mark before turning to conduct the experiments. Splitting the blood into different solutions and comparing the sample to myself and Rin's. Kira tiptoed closer, looking over my shoulder. "Yuki, are you going to be a doctor when you grow up?" she said, staring as I swirled in the test tube."That's Yukio's dream, to be a doctor," Rin said from the doorway.

"You'll be the best doctor in the world, Yukio," she smiled widely, "I believe you can do it easily."

I didn't know what to say. Being a doctor was only really a childhood dream and came in handy for any exorcism mishaps but my true dream was to become a fully-fledged exorcist in order to protect Rin. I swirled one last test tube and dropped Kira's blood in it. The tube violently bubbled and turned a dark clouded colour with flashes of blue, showing the power of Kira's demonic DNA. I nodded to myself, "Yeah, you're our sister," I smiled at Kira. Her face lit up like a light. "But the tests also concluded that Kira's blood contains almost twice as much demonic DNA as Rin," I pushed my glasses up my nose, "About 60% demonic, whereas Rin's is around 30%."
