"This is it!" Mr Schuester said as he gathered everyone at the side of the stage. "Go out there and enjoy yourselves. I know you are all nervous but if you show that you aren't, even if you are, no one will know. This is the first step to Nationals. Go out and enjoy it."

"Next to perform is McKinley High's New Directions!" The presenter announced.

A silence filled the theatre as the group of nervous teenagers took the stage. The stood in their positions for the first song and the music began.

"You, you're such a big star to me
You're everything I wanna be
But you're stuck in a hole and I want you to get out
I don't know what there is to see
But I know it's time for you to leave
We're all just pushing along
Trying to figure it out, out, out." Puck sang.

"All your anticipation pulls you down
When you can have it all, you can have it all." Artie sang.

"So come on, come on, get it on
Don't know what you're waiting for
Your time is coming don't be late, hey hey
So come on
See the light on your face
Let it shine
Just let it shine
Let it shine." New Directions sang.

"Stop being so hard on yourself
It's not good for your health
I know that you can change
So clear your head and come round
You only have to open your eyes
You might just get a big surprise
And it may feel good and you might want to smile, smile, smile." Blaine sang.

"Don't you let your demons pull you down
'Cause you can have it all, you can have it all." Artie sang.

"Hey let me know you
You're all that matters to me
Hey let me show you
You're all that matters to me.
Hey let me love you
You're all that matters to me
Hey so come on yeah
Shine all your light over me." New Directions sang.

The lights dimmed and the music changed. Everyone moved onto their positions for the next song.

"I've made up my mind,
Don't need to think it over
If I'm wrong, I am right
Don't need to look no further,
This ain't lust
I know this is love." Finn opened the song.

"But if I tell the world
I'll never say enough
'cause it was not said to you
And that's exactly what I need to do
If I end up with you." Quinn sang. She smiled as she spotted her grandmother coming into the theatre with her sister andbrothers.

"Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin' pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?
Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin' pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?" New Directions sang.

"I build myself up
And fly around in circles
Waitin' as my heart drops
And my back begins to tingle
Finally, could this be it." Brittany sang.

"Or should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin' pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?" New Directions sang.

"Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin' pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?" Santana sang.

"Should I give up?
Or should I just keep on chasin' pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?" New Directions sang.

"Should I give up?
Or should I just keep on chasin' pavements?
Should I just keep on chasin' pavements?
Ohh oh!" Rachel sang.

"Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin' pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?
Or would it be a waste
Even if I knew my place?
Should I leave it there?" New Directions sang.

"Should I give up?
Or should I just keep chasin' pavements
Even if it leads nowhere?" Grace finished the song, a small smile appearing on her face when her eyes landed on her family. She took Quinn's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze as the lights dimmed and the music changed for their final song.

The new directions moved into the positions for the final time. This was their final chance to impress the judges.

"Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere." Finn sang.

"Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere." Rachel sang.

"A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume." Santana sang.

"For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on." Puck sang.

"Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night." New Directions sang.

Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill." Mercedes sang.

Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time." Quinn sang.

"Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues." Grace sang.

"Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on." Kurt sang.

"Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night.
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Oh, don't you feel it
Streetlights, people." New Directions sang and the music ended. The lights went down for the final time and a chorus of applause filled the theatre.

That was it. The New Directions had done everything they could to impress the judges. The took their bows and left the stage.

"Well done, guys. You were amazing!" Mr Schuester smiled proudly at them all. "Now we just gotta wait."

*******

The wait for the judges to make their decision was agonising. The took such a long time and when the finally did make their decision, the three teams took to the stage and a nervous silence came over the theatre.

"In third place..." The presenter opened the envelope. "...West Field High's Baritones!"

West Field High left the stage with their tiny trophy as the audience clapped.

"In second place..." The presenter opened another envelope. "...Greystone Academy's Baseclefs."

The audience clapped as the trophy was handed to the team and they left.

"Which means McKinley High's New Directions have won and will be moving on to Regionals!" The presenter announced.

The audience erupted into cheers as Mr Schuester was handed the big trophy. They'd done it. They'd impressed the judges and now they were going to regionals.

Mr Schuester held the trophy up as they celebrated.
