Grace sat beside Quinn's bed, while her sister slept, exhausted after giving birth, reading her book and listening to her music with her headphones in. She tapped her foot quietly on the floor in time to the music. She flipped the page and glanced up at Quinn, who was still sleeping soundlessly. She returned her eyes to the book and let her eyes dance over the page.
The door to the room opened and someone came in, but Grace didn't hear them. Someone passed her out of the corner of her eye and she assumed it was the nurse coming in to check on Quinn so she didn't look up from the book.
Suddenly a hand was waved in front of her eyes and Grace looked up. She pulled her earphones out of her ears.
"Oh, hello, Lauren." Grace said.
"Hi, Grace." Lauren smiled as she sat down beside Grace in the orange, hard, plastic hospital chair.
"Um... how are you?" Grace asked, marking her page and closing her book. She slipped the book onto the bedside table and locked her phone.
"I'm okay. How are you?" Lauren asked with a soft smile.
Grace shrugged. "Good... I guess." She looked down at her feet shyly. "So... what are you doing here?"
"My gran fell down the stairs and broke her hip." Lauren shrugged, like it was nothing.
"Oh my!" Grace gasped as she looked up. "Is she Okay?"
"Oh, she fine." Lauren waved her hand. "Sometimes, I think she's made of steel, she's that strong." She let out a nervous laugh.
Grace giggled. She pushed her fingers through her hair.
"How's Quinn?" Lauren asked.
"She's okay." Grace shrugged. "Tired."
Lauren nodded. "So... you've been MIA since Lewis..." She trailed off.
"You can say it. I'm over him." Grace shrugged. "He's gone now... no point dwelling on the past."
"Wow!" Lauren said. "Fair enough. So..."
"So..." Grace repeated.
"Would you... like to go on... a date... with me?" Lauren asked nervously.
"A date? With you?" Grace repeated, stopping for a long moment and thinking. "Sure... Okay."
Lauren smiled, she couldn't hide the joy on her face.
"Lauren!" A voice called down the hall.
Lauren sighed heavily. "That's my sister, Lena." She pushed her hair out of her face. "I better." She leaned down and kissed Grace's cheek. "Bye." She turned and left the room, leaving Grace in a state of shock, sitting in the uncomfortable, plastic chair.
