Quinn strolled into the kitchen of her house. She sighed heavily, running her fingers through her blonde hair. She hadn't got much sleep the previous night. She missed her mom and she worried about her dad, there had been no change in his condition over the past few days. Even though Quinn's father was a mean, cruel man, Quinn still loved him - he was her father after all - she didn't want anything bad to happen to him.

"Good morning, Lucy." Quinn's grandmother's voice brought Quinn out of her thoughts.

Quinn's grandmother had arrived yesterday from Florida to look after Quinn and her siblings.

Quinn froze, tensing. She grimaced at her first name. She hated her first name, it reminded her of who she used to be. Her grandmother was the only one who called her by her first name even though Quinn had asked her several times to call her by her middle name.

Quinn took a deep breath and turned on her heels to face her grandmother. She forced a smile. "Good morning, gran." Quinn tried to hide her bitterness. She didn't really get on with her grandmother.

Quinn's grandmother was almost as bad as Quinn's father. She judged everyone with just one look. Quinn didn't hate her grandmother, but her grandmother definitely hated her. She hated how Quinn acted. She hated what Quinn had become.

Grace walked into the kitchen. She flicked on the kettle and sighed, sliding into a chair beside the kitchen table. "Morning." She yawned.

Maya, their twelve year old sister, followed Grace into the kitchen. She wasn't too happy about going to school. She hated school plus she had a math test that she didn't want to sit. She missed her parents. Her grandmother made her feel awkward.

"Good morning, Grace, Maya." Her grandmother smiled. She sent Quinn a look before looking at Grace.

"Morning." Maya responded. Maya moved to the cupboards and pulled a granola bar from its container before disappearing from the kitchen to her room to get changed for school.

Quinn moved over to the counter. She pulled three mugs from the overhead cupboard and placed them on the counter. The kettle beeped and Quinn lifted it off the stand, pouring the hot water into the three mugs. She placed a spoon full of coffee into each mug and carried them over to the table, placing one in front of Grace and another in front of her grandmother. She slid into a chair and placed her mug on the table.

Oliver and Oscar, Quinn and Grace's eight year old brothers, ran into the room. "Quinn, can you help me with my tie?" Oscar asked. He smiled sweetly.

Quinn smiled and nodded, she turned in her chair, taking the blue and yellow striped tie from Oscar. She tied it around Oscar's neck before fixing Oscar's white school shirt and blue blazer. She smoothed his blonde hair with her hand.

"There you go." She said, smiling at him. She couldn't help but wonder if this would be her future with her own child, the one growing in her at that very moment.

"Thanks Quinn." Oscar smiled. He moved over to his brother, helping him chose a cereal from the selection in the pantry.

Quinn sipped her coffee for the next half hour before depositing the mug in the dishwasher. She left the kitchen and went into her room. She changed into William McKinley uniform. It was Friday, William McKinley high school's weekly uniform day.

Quinn glanced herself over in the mirror. She adjusted her red blazer with the William McKinley high school logo on it. She buttoned the blazer and sighed, turning to the side and examining her baby bump. It wasn't so bad. Her blazer still fit which was a good thing.

Quinn pulled her black knee-high socks up her legs and sighed. She slipped on her black pumps and glanced at herself in the mirror again.

She grabbed her hair brush off the dresser. She ran the brush through her hair before putting the red headband on. She took another look at herself in the mirror, adjusting her red and black striped tie around her neck before giving an approving nod and leaving her room, grabbing her backpack on the way out.

"You ready?" Grace asked as she pulled her backpack onto her shoulder.

"Yup." Quinn said. "Maya, Oliver, Oscar, time for school." She called down the hall.

Oliver and Oscar ran down the hall, followed by their grandmother who carried their youngest brother, Noah. The two boys pulled on their black trainers and grabbed their backpacks, swinging them onto their shoulders. "Ready!" They announced at the same time. They looked at each other and laughed.

Maya walked down the hall with her bag over her shoulder. "Ready." She muttered. "Bye gran." She made her way out of the house and waited for her siblings.

The two eight year old boys kissed their grandmother's cheek before making their way to the front door and leaving. "Bye gran." They called.

Grace and Quinn smiled at their grandmother before leaving the house. "Bye gran." They said simultaneously.

The two girls began walking the two mile walk to school, their brothers walking ahead of them. Maya followed behind them, staring at the ground.
