Filing had never been your favourite thing to do, but as a secretary at the FBI it was just part of the job. You had been at it for hours and you couldn't even guess when you would be finished. The floor of the filing room was covered with boxes of files from recent cases, there was only a small corner of the room without boxes in it because you'd already cleared that area.

I could just go for lunch and continue this later.

Looking down at your watch you realize that its just about time for lunch anyway and decide to just go now.

I need some actual socialization, I've been in here alone for far too long. I'll bring dad and Aubs some lunch as well. I Haven't seen Aubs in a couple days so this would be a nice surprise.

Leaving the room, you close the door behind and lock it so that no one will go in and mess up your filing.

You had grabbed some bagels from your favourite coffee shop and arrived back at the building. Walking through the halls on your way to your dad's office, you tried to calm yourself. The thing is, you happened to be dating your dad's partner; James Aubrey. Your dad just didn't know about it, and Aubrey didn't plan on him finding out anytime soon; he was terrified of your dad's reaction. You just didn't like lying to him.

Before you could get worked up about it though you walked into the bullpen. You could see James at his desk right at the edge near your dad's office. You decided this was a good time to talk to him about it again, it was causing you too much stress lately.

Strolling up to him, you plop the bag with his bagel in it on his desk, "Hey Aubs" You smile at him.

"Hello lovely" he grins back at you, looking up from a file he's looking at, eyes lighting up.

"how's your day going?" you asked, leaning on your arms with hands planted to his desk.

"Better now that you're here" he cheekily says throwing an over exaggerated wink your way.

"You're a complete dork" you giggle, trying not to be too disturb the office full of people around you.

"Yeah, but I'm your dork" he grins.

"That you are" you say staring at your hands, thinking for a minute, "James can I talk to you about something?"

"That doesn't sound good, whenever you use my full name its nothing good. Last time you used my full name you wanted to talk to me about telling your dad about us." He laughed.

You looked up from staring at your hands and fixed your gaze on him. You could see him figure it out when you looked at him.

"No. We can't! he'll kill me" He spoke in a low voice, panic evident in it.

"James, if we ever want to have a future we're going to need to tell him. Better sooner than later so he can get over faster."

He leans back in his desk chair running a hand through his hair. Thinking about it for a moment he brings his mouth and mumbles into it. Moving the hand and running it over his face he concedes.

"Fine, but if he makes a move to hit me, I am running for my fucking life okay?"

"Deal" I answered, "now, c'mon let's go"

"Oh god, I didn't think you meant now" he says, the fear entering his eyes again. He stands from his chair and straightens his tie before you lead him to the door of your dad's office.

You knock, but then walk straight in anyway. The knock is just a formality, he's your freaking dad. The two of you enter the office and see your dad sitting at his desk poring over a report on his desk. He looked up when he heard you come in.

"Ah, (Y/N) my favourite daughter brought me lunch" he says with a grin, pushing his chair from his desk and standing.

He comes to your side and gives you a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Pulling back, he takes the bag from your hand, in it is his favourite bagel. He crosses the room once again and sits down.

"Pull up some chairs, eat lunch with me" he gestures to the chairs on the other side of his desk.

We did as he said and put our bagels on his desk and unwrapped them, taking a bite of mine I spoke, "dad, we have something to tell you?"

"does it have to do with the fact that you two have been dating secretly for months? Cause I've known for awhile, you're not very subtle."

"Yes..." you pause.

"Should I start running now or are you going to give me a countdown?" James asks with fear present in his eyes.

"Oh, I'm not going to hurt you" Your dad replies, the fear dissipating from James' face momentarily, "unless you hurt her of course, then your dead"

"I'm okay with that, I don't plan on hurting her."

I decide to pipe into the conversation, "I expected you to be way less chill about this dad, are you feeling okay?"

"I'm fine, I just figured that it would be better to have someone I know and trust be with you than some stranger. He's a good guy and if I can trust him with my life, I should be able to trust him with my daughter. " He answers calmly, taking a bite of his food.

"Well said, well said. I never thought I'd here you say anything that nice about me, it really feels good. You should try and do it more often" Aubrey joked.

"Don't get mouthy now, I can change my mind?" dad points at James, "besides, I don't compliment you often because I can't have your ego getting any bigger. If it did, it wouldn't fit in most rooms. I'm just helping you out kid."
