As Nala  hung in the chains, her mind was wandering the cathedral. (An astral projection sort of thing) Suddenly she felt a sharp tug. She turned and floated to the corner of the hall and peaked around it into the cathedral's main room. She watched as first Harley, then Digger fell. She watched as the nuns rose around the rest of the squad. Nala knew she wouldn't be strong enough in her physical body to help. She needed to buy time. Ever since she was a child, she had been able to heal herself of physical wounds. She knew her body was knitting itself back together and she would be strong again soon, but not soon enough at this rate. She thought fast. An idea suddenly sprang to mind. This was going to be tough...so the tough better get going.
The cathedral was dark and lit only by the deep red glow that seemed to surround the floor and the bright hellish red glow that beamed u from the holes in the floor. The Sorceress seemed to be omitting a red glow also that seemed to transfer to the chains. The squad was battling the chains with might and main, but the Sorceress laughed a deep evil laugh that boomed around as the faceless nuns picked it up and continued it. It seemed to be a losing battle when suddenly a dark shape shattered the dome above and hit the Sorceress in the back.
Batman felt something crack beneath his boots and he quickly threw out a rope with a grappling hook on the end through the hole he had just come through. He swung himself up as the Sorceress tumbled through the biggest hole in floor. The faceless nuns evaporated. So did the light.
Chato sent a stream of fire up so everyone could see. Rick crashed through a window with a missle launcher over one shoulder. "Where's Quinn and-" He stopped short when he saw Jess. "You-you-uh-" he stuttered, as his face bloomed red. Dwayne rook off his hoodie and started shredding it. "Stress management." He muttered. Deadshot was counting the bullets he had left and started eyeing Batman suspiciously.
Nala slipped back into her body. It was almost finished healing. It would take another five minutes but she was ready to start righting herself. It was slow going as she managed to slowly sit upright and untangle herself. Since she needed a few minutes yet, she slipped out again and began helping Harley untangle herself.
Harley was watching Nala intently pleading with her friend in her head to get up!!! Get up!!! But Nala didn't move. The ice cacoon began to glow with a faint blue light. The light grew brighter very very slowly. Harley assumed it was Nala's healing powers. She had hoped Nala hadn't been to far gone to recover but it seemed her friend was going to be alright in time. Just as the light grew nearly blinding, she felt cold hands on her arms. Harley screamed.
Nala whispered into Harley's ear Hey, calm down!!! It's me!!!! Harley seemed to relax slightly.
"Nals???"
"Yeah."
"You scared me!!!"
"Sorry!!!"
Nala set to helping Harley finish untangling herself and helped Harley climb up the chains to the main floor. Then, she began working on Digger. This was harder as the Aussie was unconscious. But it proved possible as she managed to drag him upwards.
The sudden appearance of Harley had brought shock and joy to the faces of the squad. "Figured you were gone for good!" Deadshot smiled as he gave her a one-armed hug.
Digger's appearance brought similar reactions. When they questioned Harley on Nala's whereabouts, the girl smiled and told them what she had seen and about Nala's powers. The squad began to wait tensely for Nala to emerge. Time passed slowly. Meanwhile, Batman was talking with Rick about what had happened. The Sorceress had dissolved into thin air. It looked like a victory was theirs to claim.
Nala had reenterned her body. The healing would be complete in 3...2...1...

BOOM

A deafening explosion rocked the cathedral as Nala claim up. The chains had fallen and her eyes were completely light glowing blue. Her hands were raised and ice was pushing her up. A cold wind wrapped the building and a great wind roared through the main floor. Everyone's mouths dropped open and they all struggled to keep their eyes open against the gale.
Nala looked like some sort of ice goddess of war. Her catsuit was coated in ice and a skirt of ice crystals fanned out around her and a high lacy collar stood up on her dress. Her hair was a deep black and was being blown around the back of her head. She settled neatly in front of them and the blue faded from her eyes returning them to their usual brown. She stood a little awkwardly in front of the squad. "I'm sorry for causing so much trouble." She murmured softly.
The others stared at her. "No harm no foul." Rick returned. The rest of the squad nodded their agreement.
Chato looked at the ground awkwardly too. He started to open his mouth when suddenly Nala spoke up again.
"Chato, I'm sorry. I'm a monster and I don't want to hurt you. I thought I could control myself but I guess I can't. I'm sorry for being a pain."
Chato thought back to what Harley had told him about Nala. He thought of the way she had come to visit him in his cell several times since they first met on his birthday. She had always been so kind but he had refused to think of her as anything more than a friend. He knew now that he loved her too the way she loved him.
"I'm the one who is a monster, Nala. I never wanted to hurt you. I'm sorry. And I thought you should know...I... love you too."
Nala stood still, transfixed by the sudden confession. She gazed longingly at him. She started walking toward him, slowly at first, then breaking into a run. She almost fell through the floor again but he caught her and then embraced her. Her body felt cool against his own warm one. Her hands felt a little cold as they crept around his neck. "I love you, Fireman."
"I love you,too, Snow Angel."
The rest of the squad applauded and they were starting to walk out the door when suddenly in front of them, the Sorceress rose. She looked furious and deadly.
Chato leaned his head down slightly as Nala tugged on his collar. She whispered something to him and they jumped apart as the red chains came snaking towards them. They stood five feet apart from each other and held out their hands and began sending out everything they had. A huge glowing mass began to form. Seconds later, they turned in unison and fired it at the Sorceress. There was a brilliant explosion that rocked the cathedral so hard, the remains of the skylight fell and a terrible shriek seemed to rend the world in two. Chato and Nala didn't stop. They were concentrating so hard they were sweating. After what felt like hours, the last remains of the Sorceress vanished and all was silent.
The squad looked at each other and Chato stared at Nala and suddenly he was the one who was running. He scooped her up and kissed her. It wad perfect. In the crumbling cathedral, they stood, oblivious to anything but each other. They finally broke apart for air and the squad applauded again and this time even Batman joined in.
Later, papers would report that a new group of unlikely heroes had saved Gotham... and that Harley Quinn had escaped from prison. Nala and Chato became an official couple and after learning all the gorey details on what had happened, Waller pulled a lot of strings and Chato and Nala were released. As long as they checked in weekly with proper authorities, they could become as normal of a couple as possible. Jess and Nala became BSF (best sisters forever) and Harley had a habit of dropping in to check up on her friend. Rick fell off the deep end flat on his face for Jess and soon the wedding bells began ringing as a double wedding took place. The rest of the squad all received just desserts. Digger got a tv and a boxed set of My Little Pony and a new Pinky. Dwayne got a new tv also and a cell above ground with a door to the sewers. He helped the prison keep them working properly and in time became an excellent plumber. Deadshot got to have weekly visits from his daughter. And to be properly clichè, every one lived happily ever after.
