Livy's POV:
I massaged my temples while the teacher gave us his usually long speech. It's the second to last day of school and the teachers are still giving us lectures, I thought, annoyed.

"Miss Wayland, is there a problem?" Mr. Carpenter asked me, pausing his lecture. I flinched, usually when teachers call me out, it's not a good thing.

"I'm fine." I planted a fake, reassuring smile on my face. He nodded and continued his lecture. I let out a silent sigh of relief and pretended like I was interested in what he was saying.

* * *

The bell was music to my ears as I grabbed my binders and headed to my locker. Lunch time, I thought as I grabbed my lunch box.

"Hey Livy," said my best friend Makayla, opening her locker next to me.

"Hi Kay." I shut my locker and waited for her to grab her lunch. She shut her locker and we walked to the lunch room together.

The high school lunch room was even louder than the hallway. We sat down in our usual spots next to Layla, Jess, Matt, Michael, and Leo. All of us are juniors except for Matt, who is a sophomore.

"Hi guys," I said. Layla gave me a hug while the boys waved.

Someone from a different table laughed loudly as I started eating.

"Wait! I have an idea," the same guy said. Case was his name. Case, the school's daredevil himself. He lowered his voice as he said something to his friends. They all laughed.

"Do it!" One shouted.

"Don't pay attention to them," said Kay, noticing me staring. "They act like they are cool, but really, they're just a bunch of meatheads." Layla and I laughed at that comment.

"Am I the only one worried about the science exam tomorrow?" Asked Leo.

"Yes," Jess replied, his brown eyes gleaming with mischief.

"Come on people, this is a big grade. It's our junior year of high school, that means one more year left. You should be studying." Leo pushed up his glasses, proud of his little speech.

"Okay mom," said Matt sarcastically. We all burst out laughing, even Leo smiled. Our laughs subsided as the principal walked up to us.

"Makayla, we need you at the office," he said.

"Okay." I could tell Makayla was confused as she followed him out of the lunch room.

I noticed Case walking over, so I nudged Layla.

"What do you want, Case?" She scowled. He raised his hands mockingly in the air, pretending to surrender.

"Well, me and my buddies were wondering if you wanted a different dare." He put down his hands.

"My buddies and I," Leo quietly corrected.

"Leave us alone, we don't want any dares," said Michael. Case ignored him.

"Anyway, there's this haunted asylum near Scarlet Lake. We dare you guys to spend six nights there." He gave us a crooked grin.

"We don't want any dares," Michael repeated.

"Are ya too scared?" Case stared directly at him.

"No, we just think it's stupid," I said. "Leave us alone." Case turned to me.

"Nope! They're too scared!" Case called out to his friends, walking back to his table. The whole lunchroom laughed, Case's friends laughed the hardest. I rolled my eyes.

"I can't believe this," complained Leo.

"Me neither," said Jess. "Tomorrow is going to be a rough day."

We finished eating in silence, feeling eyes on us from all tables. Wonderful, I thought. Just wonderful.
