Livy's POV:
None of us could enjoy the rest of the day without worrying. When I got home, I dropped my backpack and started packing. I know Kay is a good packer, her family likes to camp and hike, so I invited her over.
My mom poked her head inside my room.
"Is everything okay, sweetie?" She asked.
"I'm fine." I faked a smile. "My friends and I are going camping for six nights on a short notice." She didn't seem to be buying it. "It's an 'End of the Year' party," I added. She nodded.
"Do you need any help?" She asked.
"I don't think so, I invited Kay over." She smiled at me and left the room.
It didn't take Kay long to reach my house. When the doorbell rang, I beat my mom to the door.
"Thank goodness you came," I said gratefully. She smiled.
"It's the least I can do." We went to my room and started packing.
Jess' POV:
Leo is probably still mad at me, but that was the least of my worries. I had to pack my bag for the Asylum, somehow tell my parents that I would be going camping, and hope someone else would be taking care of the food and water issue. Someone stood at the door.
"Jess, what are you doing?" It was my dad. Great.
"My friends and I are going on a... camping trip." It didn't sound very influencing. He crossed his arms and looked at me expectantly. "Leo got a Straight A award, so he wanted to go camping. He invited us," I added.
"How many days?"
"Six."
"I'm not sure..." He hesitated.
"Come on, this could be good for him," someone behind him whispered. My mom stepped out from behind him. My dad sighed.
"Fine, just stay safe." I watched as they exited the room.
Layla's POV:
I tried to invite Livy and Kay over, but neither of them would answer their phones. Frustrated, I threw my phone on my bed and started packing. Would they bring food, or should I? I hesitated. Leo will probably bring five times the food we need, but just to make sure... I packed some extra just in case.
To be honest, I was a little worried. Leo was definitely not helping my case by freaking out, but he was going.
My parents don't usually care where I go, so that wasn't going to be too big of a problem. I walked downstairs.
"Hey mom?" I called.
"What?" She was in the kitchen.
"My friends and I are going camping for six days, starting on Friday," I said.
"Okay." I could tell she lost interest in the conversation, so I stalked back up the stairs.
Mike's POV:
"Mike?" I heard a small voice in the doorway.
"Yes?" I asked, looking to see who it was. It was Jack, Matt's and my younger brother.
"Where are you and Matt going?"
"We are just going on a little camping trip," I answered. I had already worked things out for our parents, but I never told Jack.
"For six whole days?" He looked as if he was about to cry.
"Yes, but don't worry, it will fly by fast." I picked him up. "You and mom can play."
"Okay." I could tell he was still disappointed, but I definitely made him feel a little better.
"Mike, what are you packing for Saturday?" I didn't see Mike enter the room.
"You can look," I said, gesturing to my bag. Sometimes I forgot he was a year younger than me, he was so mature.
"Thanks." He rummaged through my bag and put everything back in neatly when he was done. I tried to act cool around him, but I was actually a little worried about the Asylum. Are the rumors true? Is it actually haunted?
Leo's POV:
I checked my bag for the third time. I hope I'm not missing anything, I thought, biting my lip. Someone knocked on my door.
"Leo? Can I come in?" It was my mom.
"Yes." Now is the time to tell her. She pushed open the door and came in.
"What's this?" She asked, pointing to my bag.
"My friends and I are going camping," I responded. "For six days."
"What day?" She moved closer.
"Saturday." I looked at her.
"I'm calling Jess to see if this is true." She walked out of my room, a little too quickly. She doesn't believe me. I looked at my bag. I'm all packed. My bag was split into four sections: clothes, food, personal hygiene items (and extras for everyone else), and handy items (flashlights, pocketknife, etc.). What now? I looked around and my eyes rested on my computer. Research! I started to walk towards it when someone cleared their throat. I quickly turned around to see my mom.
"Jess said that you guys were going camping due to your good grades." She smirked. "I guess I will let you go."
"Thank you." Part of me was glad that she was letting me go, but the other part was terrified. As she turned and walked out of the room, I logged into my computer and searched The Scarlet Lake Asylum. I narrowed my eyes, reading all the information.
"Oh my," I muttered to myself in horror.
