Today was the day, the final day...

Italy left today to go and fight in the war. He walked out of Germany's house, a solemn expression plastered on his face. He shook with unshed tears, wishing he could simply disappear from existence. More thoughts like this buzzed in his head before he was pulled from his thoughts by a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"Italy?" Called a thick German accent.

"Si?"

"Everything vill be okay."

"I'm just-a scared, Germany.. I won't know what to do..."

"Don't vorry..."

All the nations had gathered, watching as the Italian boarded a small, private plane. He turned around, offering a weak smile. Silently apologizing for all the things he might never get the chance to say.

"Vait!" Germany said, sprinting towards Italy, "I can't let you go..."

Italy fiddled with the silver locket, smiling gently, "ve, Germany, I don't-a have a choice."

"But I do..." Germany whispered before shouting, "I vill go in his place!"

The nations around were all shocked, Italy too.

"Are there no objections?" The German asked.

Nobody spoke.

"Then it is settled then, I vill-"

Germany was cut off by lips smashing against his. It was Italy, said Italian was crying, tears streaming down his face. Which was only visible to the German once they broke away.

"Ve, I'm-a sorry Germany. I can't-a let you do that... The last time I let someone I love leave, I never saw them again..."

"Italy..."

"Goodbye, Germany."

The Italian smiled gently, giving one last wave. Before trying to board again, being stopped briefly by Japan who, for the first time, requested a hug.

In the end, it ended up being a whole hug and cry sob fest, but nobody seemed to mind. Nor did they say anything after the Italian boarded the plane to leave.

Then everyone had left. Except for a certain German. He stayed there as the numbness of realization washed over him.

Italy was gone.
