When we get to the house, it is beautiful. We get all of our stuff into the different rooms. By then, it is nearly 7:00, and we are all hungry. We want to go some place to go eat because my mother doesn't want to cook. We decide on Fish Bones American Grill because we all agreed on going there. One of the main reasons we picked it was because Sabrina wanted some fish, and they have amazing fish.
I think she will have a major influence on what we do because she hasn't ever been to Maine before.
I got Ahi Tuna. It is amazing.
When we finish dinner, we go back to the house. I get showered, as well as Sabrina. Then we go to a room with a full sized bed and tv. We brought a few movies to watch but decided on The Princess Bride. I love that movie. Sabrina fell asleep close to the end, but I couldn't.
When the movie did end, I turned everything off and went to sleep.
The next morning, once everyone was awake, we went out for breakfast.
While we ate, we discussed what we were going to do that day. My mom and dad named a few places, and then we voted. We all voted for hiking Mt. Apatite.
When we used to live here, we hiked it all the time, but we never got to the top since we were so little. That was our challenge for today: to make it to the top.
We went back to the house to get some water, sack lunch, and other supplies. Then we headed on our way. The weather was perfect. It was such a beautiful day.
We started hiking. Since we got off to a later start and stopped a lot to admire the view, we only hiked for a couple hours before finding some bigger rocks to sit down on and have lunch.
For lunch, we brought some sandwiches, chips, fruit, and a brownie. We all sat down and separated the food. Sabrina and I finished first, so we went exploring for a little while. We went down a different trail. We found some really pretty flowers that we took pictures of. My dad whistled at us like he always does when he needs us to hear him when we are far away. We knew to head back, so we did.
When we got back, they were still sitting down but got up quickly, and we started hiking again. By now it is nearly 1:00, and the sun is beaming down on us. This morning it was chilly in the shade because it was windy, but now I want to be in the shade because it feels amazing.
We reach the top around 2:45 because we stopped a few times for Henry who needed a break.
When we got there, the view was amazing. There were several people but not so many that it was crowded. The trees looked gorgeous, and there weren't any roads or cars in sight. I am glad we came. It was so relaxing that I almost forgot about Braidy, Evelyn, and all the other drama happening back home. I wish I could just stay here and not go home. The only thing I would really miss would be Shawn.
We stayed there for about two hours just enjoying the view. We left around 4:30 so we could get down the mountain and possibly do something else before supper.
We went to the house to decide what to do. Sabrina and I wanted to go shopping while Henry wanted to take a nap.
He was exhausted from the hike.
Sabrina and I went shopping with my mom while my dad stayed at the house with Henry.
We went to the Auburn Mall. First, we went to JCPenny. There, I got a really cute t-shirt dress. It was navy blue and white striped and only $20! I also got a top that is really loose and flowy with flowers on it. Sabrina found a couple of tops and a pair of light washed, ripped jeans. Once we checked out, we headed to Maurice's. I found some black wedges and a pair of light washed skinny jeans. Sabrina didn't find anything there, though. Then we kept walking and came across a Books A Million. My mom wanted to go in there, and since she was kind enough to bring us, we went in. Sabrina and I headed over to the romance section and then the mystery section, but we didn't find anything. I like to read, especially if I find a good book. We went to where my mother was, and she had found a few books. We went to the checkout and then kept walking. We stopped at Bath & Body Works, and we brought a fragrance set that we all liked and divided it amongst us. It was getting close to 7:00, so we headed back to the house.
When we got there, Henry and my dad were playing a game. As soon as we opened the door, they stopped what they were doing, and they looked at us. We started laughing because we soon learned that they were playing Speak Out and had mouthguards in. We all joined in with the fun and played a few rounds.
Mom took her's out and said, "Now, let's get down to business. Food." Everyone laughed. We all took out our mouthguards to decide on where to eat.
After we ate, we came back and went straight to bed. Everyone was tired from hiking.
The next day, we decided to just stay home. Sabrina and I put in a movie and did each other's nails. It was so much fun.
We had brought a few games from home, including Speak Out, so we played a game of Monopoly, Life, and Farkle. In the middle, we went out for lunch.
That night, they said the Northern Lights would be visible, so around 10:00, we went outside to see them. And we did.
As soon as they appeared, Sabrina says, "Wow!" in a really hushed voice.
"I know," I whispered back.
And they really are "Wow!" They are so gorgeous. The beautiful colors dancing in the sky. Green, purple, red, and blue cover the sky. And the parts that aren't covered, are covered in stars. I wish my eyes could take a picture because no phone or camera could capture the moment quite like our eyes do. I wish I could stay here forever. Under the stars, under the sky. It's like a dream come true. Like a fairytale.
The next morning, I wake up refreshed. I don't remember getting in bed, and I'm still in my regular clothes from yesterday. I'm so confused. The last thing I remember was looking up at the stars and the beautiful Aurora Borealis. I walk out of the bedroom to the living room.
"Why am I still in these clothes?" I ask, looking down at my clothes.
"Last night, we were looking at the Northern Lights. We all came in, but you and Sabrina stayed out for a little while longer. About 15 minutes later, Sabrina came in without you and said that you fell asleep. I went out, picked you up, and put you in your bed," my dad tells me.
"Oh," I say remembering last night, "Okay."
We decide to go skiing today because Sabrina and Henry had never been. We go to one of the best we know about, Lost Valley Ski Resort. Since it had been so long since my parents and I had skied, we all started on the beginner slope after we went through a short training for Sabrina and Henry. My parents and I got our skills back pretty quick, and Sabrina caught on quickly as well. Henry, on the other hand, fell a few times.
After Sabrina got a little more confident, my parents allowed us to go to the intermediate slope while they stayed with Henry.
We got on the ski lift to go up, and I asked Sabrina, "Are you having a good time?"
"Definitely! I'm kind of glad that you lied so much," she stopped for a little before adding, "But notice my use of 'lied' as in past tense. Understand."
"Yes," I answer with a laugh.
We get up to the slope and hop off the ski lift.
"The main difference between this one and the beginner one is that there are more trees and obstacles, and it is slightly steeper."
"Ok."
"You got this!"
We start skiing. I try to not go too fast so I can watch Sabrina, but except for the first little bit, I was always a little ahead of her. We are going for a little and pass a few trees, but then, we come across another tree. I don't know if she got distracted or what, but as I pass it, I look back and scream, "Sabrina!"
She screams and falls over.
I stop and try to grab her. Thankfully, I succeed. She is breathing so hard. I'm just glad she missed the tree.
"Sabrina, are you okay?"
She doesn't answer, but there is no doubt she's alive.
"Calm down. You are okay."
I try calming her down. It doesn't work.
"Breath in. Breath out. In. Out." It's working. "In. Out. In. Out." She's calming down. She starts breathing normally.
"Are you okay?"
"I think so. Thanks to you."
I lean down and squeeze her.
"Oh, Sabrina! You scared me so bad."
She sits up.
"You scared me!"
"I'm sorry. If I hadn't screamed, you would have run into the tree."
"I know, but..."
"Everyone falls. You are doing much better than I did when I started."
"But you were a lot smaller, too"
"So! I had to do the beginner slope several times before I even had enough confidence to come here. You did it after a few runs."
"I guess you're right."
"And even my parents fall. Even professionals fall."
We sit there a little while longer in silence.
"You ready to finish?" I ask her, knowing my family is probably waiting for us.
"Yeah!"
I get up and then help her up. We keep going, and Sabrina didn't fall any other time down the slope.
When we reach the bottom, we head to the lodge because I got a text from my mom that said they were going there to wait for us.
When we get to the lodge, we stomp off some of the snow and head in. We find them near a fire with mugs in their hands. "I bet they have hot chocolate," I say to Sabrina.
When we reach them, they ask us if we want hot chocolate.
"Told ya!" I tell Sabrina. "And yes!" I answer, "I think I speak for both of us."
My mom turns toward Sabrina, "Do you want hot chocolate?"
"Yes, please," Sabrina answers.
We ask a worker for two hot chocolates before we join them on the couch.
"So, how was it?" my dad asks.
"Awesome! I forgot how much I loved skiing!"
"Sabrina, did you enjoy it? You're being extremely quiet," my mom asks.
"Oh! Yes! It was amazing."
"It really was!"
"For the most part, at least," Sabrina murmurs under her breath.
"What was that Sabrina?" my mom asks with a worried look on her face.
"Oh, nothing."
"Did something happen?" my dad asks.
I turn to Sabrina, "Do you want me to tell them?"
"I don't care."
"Well, so we were going down the slope passed a few trees. Everything was great. Then I pass another tree, and I know that Sabrina is close behind. I look back and see her zoned out heading straight towards the tree. I scream her name and accidentally startled her."
"Oh, no!" my parents interrupt me in unison.
"She swerved and missed the tree but fell down. I got down to help her. She was breathing heavily, so I had to calm her down. Once she calmed down, we talked till she was ready to continue."
"Oh, Sabrina! Are you alright?"
"Yes. Just a little traumatized, but Kamri was a great help."
We sat there a little longer while we finished our hot chocolate. We talked a bit, but my parents and Henry worked on a puzzle when they finished their drinks. They were almost done when Sabrina and I finished, so we helped them finish it.
When we got to the last piece, we let Henry have the honors.
He put the piece in place and exclaimed, "I finished a whole puzzle by myself!" We all laugh.
When we get to the car, we all pile in and decide where we want to eat. We decided to go to George's Pizza. It's a cheap, good pizza restaurant we always went to as kids.
When we walk in, there is George. He always greets his customers and seats them.
The first thing he says is, "Kamri! Henry! Cory! Danielle!"
We all say in unison, "George!"
He gives us huge hugs.
"It has been too long! And who might you be."
"This is my friend, Sabrina," I tell him.
"Well, hello Sabrina. It's nice to meet you."
"You too."
He gives her a hug to and, being the person she is, didn't refuse. We ate and went back to the house.
When we got home, we were all tired so we went to bed. Sabrina and I, however, put in a movie while we were going to bed.
I'm pretty sure I fell asleep before it ended, but it was turned off correctly when I woke up. Sabrina must have stayed up for the whole thing and turned it off.
Sadly, today is Monday which means we have to go back home. I get out of bed and everyone is already up.
I open the door. "Splat!" Green slime falls on top of my head and the floor.
Henry starts laughing.
"Oh! You're going to pay!"
I go back in the room to the bathroom to take another shower. Sabrina comes running in stopping when she gets to the door to avoid the slime.
She gets to the bathroom, and I say, "Did you know about this?"
"Yes. Did you not get my text?"
"No. I didn't check my phone."
"But you always do!"
"I noticed you were gone and didn't want to leave you alone with my wacko family. But anyways, get out so I can wash this out."
"Ok. I'm sorry."
She starts walking away.
"Wait!" I yell.
She comes back.
"What if this," I look around, "Braidy, and Evelyn is all just a prank he pulled."
"I don't know that he could pull that off."
"Oh! I think he could. He has the money to pay people to play them, and he still keeps in contact with some friends up here."
"I don't know. I doubt it, but you can ask him when you get out," she says as she walks away.
I finish my shower and get ready for the day.
"Henry!" I call. He comes running.
"Yes?"
"Is this all a prank?"
"All what?" he asks confused.
"This house, Braidy, Evelyn."
"Who and what?"
"Are you doing this to teach me a lesson on lying?"
"What? No. I have no clue what you're talking about."
"Ok." I halfway believe him.
We pack up all our things and head to the airport after lunch. We board and head home.
