She wakes up to the sound of thunder and the pelting of the rain on leaves. Her head was pounding and as she opened her eyes, they stung and when she tried to close them, they stung even worse.
She took in her surroundings slowly. The air smelt like a storm, the ground underneath her was wet and muddy, her fingers grazed the soft, springy moss and she knew one thing for certain, she was in a forest and she had absolutely no idea how she got there.
She opened her eyes again and saw the dark trees looming over her. A few drops of cold rain splattered onto her cheeks and she knew she had to get out of there, fast. Something to do with the rain eating away at her skin..? She wasn't to certain.
She hoisted herself up, using a nearby tree as a grip. Once she was upright and standing, she let go of the tree and her hand came away sticky with sap. She grimaced and wiped it off on her pant leg. Thunder rumbled above again and that sent a wave of panic through her body.
She stumbled along, unable to find her balance, running into trees and tripping over roots. Her dark hair stuck to her sweaty face and got into her mouth, which she spit out in disgust.
Then the rain came. Every drop that touched her skin felt like it was burning a hole through her flesh right to her bone. She cried in despair but never gave up. She wondered if she was going to die... and she wondered if it was time to die.
