Everyone was slightly uptight.
Who could blame them?
I knew how they felt. I mean, last war-battle thingy I was in I got shot through the neck by a Manticore spike. I laugh at how stupid I was back then. I was cocky and driven by the want to prove myself to the gods and everyone who believed that all I did was run.
I am different now. I have a child to protect and you know what they say about the maternal instinct.
Plus I really wanted to kick some Cyclops ass.
After seeing what they did to James and Darcy, anger rolled in my stomach. I walked back towards my cabin and before I knew it, Darcy had caught up to me.
"Have you done this before?" She asks.
I look over at her. "What? Fight Cyclopses?" She nods. "No I haven't. After all, my half-brother is a Cyclops."
She looks at me with a frown. I tilt my head. "He's friendly."
She nods reculantly like she still dosen't like the idea of a Cyclops being my half-brother. I didn't blame her. She peeled away silently and headed towards her cabin. I watched her go. Half of her long hair was black and the other half was a strawberry blonde. I wasn't going to say anything but it did look slightly odd.
I walked into my cabin and imediatly went to check on Amelia. A tree nymph named Juniper was rocking her gently while humming a lullaby I didn't recognize. When she saw me she smiled.
"She almost alseep." Juniper whispered. She turned her attention back to Amelia.
I watched as Amelia was slowly sucked into a peaceful sleep. Juniper gently placed her in her crib and turned to face me. "Is everything alright?" She whispers.
I shrug and look over her shoulder and out tge window. Demigods scurry around, half heading to their different activities and the other half rushing for their weapons. "Last time I did this I nearly died."
Juniper looked at me with sad eyes. "I remember."
"It was an awesome rush... but slighty painful." I grin at her. She gives me a small smile in return.
Suddenly, the ground begins to rumble beneath our feet. I rush to the window and look out to see what's going on. Unarmed demigods are running towards their cabins and those who are already armed run towards the barrier. "How do they keep getting in?" I turn towards Juniper. "I thought they fixed the barrier."
Juniper rushes to my side and peers out the window as well. She looks confused and worried at the same time. "They did." She frowns.
I see Leo running towards our cabin and before I know it, he's in Amelia's room.
"Leigh," He huffs, catching his breath. "I don't know how to put this, but, you can't fight."
I feel smalls pulses of rage course through me as I process what he had just said. "What?" I sound angrier than I meant to. "Are you freaking kidding me?"
"Gotta go." Juniper says awkwardly before slipping past us and prancing out the doors.
Leo moves towards me and takes my hands in his. "Last time something like this happened, you died."
I pull my hands away and scowl. "I did not die."
He sets his jaw. "You almost did."
I take a deep breath and try to calm myself. "Leo," I say. "You know how some mothers can lift cars off their babies?" I ask.
"I don't like where this is going, but sure." He nods reculantly.
"Well let's just sah that these Cyclopses are the car and the camp is my baby." I walk around him. "I'm going to fight."
What happens next is so fast, I don't have time to react. Leo grabs my wrist, snaps a handcuff around it and then snaps the other half of the handcuff to the crib. When I look back at him to see what the Hades he was doing, he looks at me apologetically. "I'm sorry," He kisses me. "I had to." He runs past me and out of Amelia's room.
"Leo!" I yell after him. I feel anger boil inside of me when he dosen't answer. I crane my neck so I can see out the window and see him running along with the other demigods towards the barrier, bronze hammer in hand. "Leo!"
