-Chapter five is here!!-
"Riley!! Get up!!! Training starts soon!!" I jump out of bed like a bullet and grab my uniform from the cupboard. I quickly pull it on, run out and see Ardonia waiting for me and Mateo quietly standing in the elevator. I rush in with Ardonia and push the button labelled "training room." In a flash, we're there, and as I step into the training room, I notice the careers training altogether in the corner, showing off. I roll my eyes, but then notice that there is less careers than usual. The district 2 girl tribute is missing. I look around and find her throwing knives at a target with great skill. She's about 14 and has long dark black hair and olive skin. I walk over to watch.
"Hi there," I say. "why aren't you with the other careers?"
"Other?" She says, her voice like ice "I'm not a career. My parents told me I'd bring shame to the family if I didn't volunteer. I didn't volunteer the first two years, but they started getting mean, punishing me after not volunteering. Eventually I decided they would probably kill me if I didn't volunteer by the time I was 18, so I gave in and volunteered."
"Oh. I'm sorry," I said, feeling awkward.
"Don't worry about it," she says, her voice sounding a bit brighter now. "I do have some skill from the lessons they gave me. I could win. I'm Nico by the way."
"Riley," I replied, shaking hands with her. She had a strong, firm grip. I was beginning to doubt I would win this.
"I guess I'll see you soon?" she asked, grabbing another knife.
"Sure," I reply, as she hits the target right in the centre.
I spend the rest of the day going from section to section. I find that I'm pretty good at sword fighting, and learn how to successfully make a fire. I also learn how to hunt, clean and cook animals, and learn how to find fresh water. I guess I get pretty good, but not great.
This goes on for a day or two, going from section too section, picking up skills as I go along. I end up spending a lot of time at the sword fighting section, because
A)it's fun, and
B) I'm good at it.
When it was time to get our training scores, I was ready. I wasn't dreaming I would get a 12 or anything, but I was hoping to get a 3 at the least. I waited next to Mateo for the names to be called.
"Mateo Etlanson," a voice called out "we're ready for your evaluation."
"Good luck!" I whispered. Mateo said nothing.
After a few minutes, Mateo walked out.
"Riley Silos," the voice called out. "It's time for your evaluation."
I walked into the room and grabbed a sword. I found a dummy, and started attacking it. Soon, it's head was off, and it's arms lay on the floor.
"Thank you. you may leave," The head gamekeeper said. I ran out. when I got back outside I heard the voice say
"Jamie Rheys, it's time for your evaluation." Jamie walked in, twitching nervously.
Later that day, we were watching the scores on the TV.
"The scores are as followed," Ceaser flickman said. "district 1, Rocket marble, has a score of 8. district 1, Beauty days, has a score of 6. District 2, Max zane, has a score of 9. District 2, Nico Chang, got a score of 10." I smiled. I knew she would do well.
"District 3, Mateo Etlanson, got a score of 5,"
"Good job, Mateo!!" I said, but he didn't respond.
"District 3, Riley Silos, got a score of 9.
"Good job Riley!!" Ardonia cheered.
"Nice." Orania said, slightly less gloomy then normal. I smiled bright. I had done pretty well.
