I awoke to the sound of footsteps coming from right outside the cave. I froze. Someone had found me. I reached over to grab my sword, but it wasn't there. For a few seconds I was confused, but then it hit me. I had put it down when I collapsed after running. Now, I was doomed.

"Riley I know your in there," a voice called out. "I'm coming in." I was so sure my life was over, until I saw who it was.

"Nico?" I said, puzzled.

"Hi Riley. I found your sword and followed your footsteps here."

"Oh god, I could've been killed,"

"Yeah you pretty stupid," Nico said to me, smiling. "Anyway, I wanted to ask you something."

"Um, ok," I replied, taking my sword.

"Want to be allies?"

"What?! you want to be my ally?" I gasped, "I'm not that great a fighter, and you've seen how bad I am at hiding!"

"Actually your pretty good. You should see the careers footsteps. They're everywhere."

"Well, ok. I'll work with you."

"Great!! now let's go find a better camp!!"

Nico and I crawled out of the small cave and went looking around.

"Did you get any supplies? Nico asked me.

"Just a sword, an empty backpack and a sleeping bag. Did you get anything?"

"I got a backpack, some bread, a sleeping bag and a vest of knives." Before I could reply, we hear a scream and the boom of the cannon.

"Quick, hide!!" Nico hissed, and we ducked down behind a large clump of trees and bushes. We see the careers walk past.

"Nice shot, Rocket!" we hear Beauty say as they pass. "You got that stupid Jamie right in the head!!"

"Thanks!! but the best part is we got his axe!!" Rocket replied "We were short on weapons because of that ice around the cornucopia."

"Yeah, it's a good thing Mateo is small enough. Thanks dude."

"No problem," I hear Mateo say. Mateo?! with the careers?! we wait until they've gone before continuing our search. We eventually find a slightly larger cave with a hidden entrance.

"Perfect," Nico says as we go inside. It's slightly damp and could fit another person if we needed it to. By the time we had laid down our stuff, it was night, so we curled up in our sleeping bags for the night, our stomachs growling. we would have to wait till morning to eat. Although I was exhausted, it took me a while to sleep. I still couldn't believe Mateo was hanging around the careers. It was really weird. Then the Capitol anthem played. I crawled out of the cave to look. Today's dead tributes were Jamie (from district 4), a girl from district 6 and another girl from district 12. I crawled back into my sleeping bash and shut my eyes. I soon fell asleep.
