Chapter 2: Ignored

Hebe: (walking towards her parents) Sorry I'm late. I had a little trouble.

Mrs. Tian: At lest you're here. Have a seat.

(Hebe nods and moves to her mother's right. She sits down in the empty seat and turns to look at the others. She sees Calvin and quickly turns to her mom.)

Mrs. Tian: Hebe, these are the Chen's.

Mr. Tian: They are good friends of your mom and I. That is their son Calvin.

(Hebe smiles to her parents and then turns to Calvin and his family. Calvin is still staring at Hebe.)

Hebe: Hi! I'm Hebe Tian. It's really nice to meet you.

Mrs. Chen: (smiles) Hi dear! It's really nice to meet you. Your parents have been telling us so much about you.

Mr. Chen: You look very pretty.

Hebe: Thank you!

(Mrs. Chen looks at Calvin and then kicks Calvin's leg.)

Mrs. Chen: (smiles) Introduce yourself honey.

(Calvin doesn't say anything and Mrs. Chen kicks him again. This time Calvin jumps a little and looks at his mom and then looks at Hebe.)

Calvin: (smiles) Hi, I'm Calvin.

Hebe: (quickly) Hi.

(Hebe then turns to her mom leaving Calvin surprised. Mrs. Tian looks at them and then at her husband.)

Mr. Tian: Why don't we start eating?

Mr. Chen: That would be great.

[After eating]

(Hebe and Calvin's parents are happily talking while Hebe is sulking and Calvin is staring at Hebe. After a few minutes Hebe turns to Calvin.)

Hebe: (annoyed) Could you stop staring?

Calvin: (in a daze) No.

(Hebe turns away and kicks Calvin right in the shin very hard. Calvin jumps up from his seat in pain and looks at Hebe in disbelief.)

Calvin: Ah!

(Hebe stands up and pretends to yawn.)

Hebe: Mom, Dad, Mr. and Mrs. Chen, I'm sorry but I'm really tired today. I'll leave first. It was really nice meeting you.

(Hebe leaves before anyone can stop her. Calvin sits back down and stares at the door in shock.)

Mrs. Tian: (embarrassed) I'm so sorry.

Mr. Chen: (laughs) She's not a shy girl is she? (Mrs. Tian looks at her husband) I really like your daughter, my friend.

Mr. Tian: (laughs) It's hard not to.

(The adults look at each other and then laughs. Calvin just keeps looking at the door.)

[Xiongda College, Outside]

(Calvin and Jiro are sitting outside on a bench talking.)

Jiro: (shocked) She did what?!

Calvin: (grumpy) Kicked me in the shin.

Jiro: Why?

Calvin: How would I know? I just smiled and stared at her.

Jiro: Stared?! Hmm? Was she that pretty?

Calvin: (amazed tone) She had on this pretty white dress with long curly hair. She was so beautiful!

(Jiro stares at Calvin with amazement.)
