Lana's POVLana was this close to snapping the neck of one of Leo's men.
"What do you mean you can't find them!" Lana shouted.
The male vampire flinched at her voice. Lana used her vampire speed and had the vampire pinned to the wall in a second. She grabbed him by the collar and lifted him off the floor.
Her eyes flashed a bright scary red before going back to their green colour.
"My beloved's safety is at stake and you will be the first to see how ruthless I can be if you and your team don't find out anything." Lana said in an icy calm whisper.
Then she let the vampire go and he slumped to the ground. He quickly got up on his feet and righted himself. "Of course Ms. Lanakila."
The male dashed for the door before going out of Lana's office. Lana had asked Leo and his team to come to her house to search for a trail and they hadn't found anything yet.
Right as Lana took her place in front of the window, Leo came in to her office. It was a great disrespect to enter her office without announcing himself but Lana's mind was somewhere else and she knew Leo so she let it slide.
He slowly took a couple steps into the room as if to see if she would snap and twist his neck right there.
When he was sure that Lana was collected enough he said, "I see you're terrorising my men?"
Lana turned her head his way and gave him an angry look.
"I didn't mean it like it's a problem." Leo replied as he raised his hands. "If it helps you vent out your anger and frustration, who am I to say anything about it."
Lana gave a soft sigh and sat at her office chair. "Have you found your beloved Leonardo?" Lana asked out of the blue.
Leo was surprised a little bit but answered, "No I am sorry to say that I have not."
Lana nodded her head. "Then you don't yet know how it feels when you find your beloved, all you want to do is to never let them go."
Leo didn't reply because he couldn't come up with anything to say to that.
"And right now my mate is away from me, in pain. Don't get smart-ass with me about venting my anger when my mate is in danger." Lana said calmly.
Leo nodded and said, "You're right. I'm sorry."
Lana didn't say anything for a few seconds then asked, "Do you have anything?"
"Well all I can say is that they were good. The scent trail leads up to a mall close to here and they dumped the car there to lose us and they used the human's scents in the mall to get rid of their trail." Leo explained.
Of course Lana already knew all of that because she had followed the scent to the mall herself before Leo and his men had arrived. She had found the car and the lack of further evidence as well.
She was furious. She had made a grave mistake at leaving Roman alone at the house. If she had stayed with him, or maybe if she had taken him with her like he had asked... he wouldn't be taken from her right now.
She had failed Roman. Lana had promised to protect him, and she had failed to keep that promise to her beloved.
Her heart was at constant pain thinking Roman was in the hands of Marcus. Oh when she got her hands on him, she was going to rip him to pieces.
"I want two of your men to look through the surveillance tapes in the mall to see if they can find Marcus or his men. The remaining four will assist me in searching the area around where the trail last ends." Lana said as she got up.
She walked over to a shelf and pulled a book. The whole shelve slid to the side to reveal weapons. She grabbed a couple of wooden stakes and strapped them to her waist making sure they were hidden from the sight. Then she grabbed two silver knives and placed them at her ankles and covered them with her jeans.
One of the people who had grabbed Roman was a werewolf. Marcus could be working with both vampires and werewolves. She needed to be ready for both kinds.
Leo asked, "Don't you want to gather reinforcements? We don't know how many people Marcus has got. I have only six men and we would be going in blind if we find out where he is keeping your beloved."
Lana set the book back and the secret compartment closed again. "I don't plan on waiting any longer than I already have. If you don't want to put your men in danger, I will go in when we find out where they are hiding."

Roman's POV
Roman grunted as Marcus pressed silver into his wounds. He hadn't stopped inflicting pain for a second.
Roman's throat was sore and he couldn't scream any more. His body flinched and moved at the pain on reflex and small grunts and noises escaped him.
Fortunately Marcus had left the whip a while ago. Unfortunately, Marcus had many more ways of inflicting pain upon Roman. He could feel the blood dripping on his back. He was bare chested now as the lashes had tore the cloth to pieces.
He couldn't feel his back and he wondered if that was a blessing or not. Roman was rasping for a breath and sweat was dripping off of him along with blood.
He didn't know if it was minutes, hours or days went by as he listened to Marcus' sadistic nonsense and laughter and feeling continuous pain.
Roman hadn't felt pain like this ever in his life before. The worse was when he and Trevor and him had been playing at Roman's parents backyard, up in the tree and when Roman had slipped and fell. He had broken an arm and a leg at the same time.
That was the worse pain Roman had felt but that was before. Now that memory seemed so far away.
All of his senses was screaming for a break, a relief. His mind couldn't take the physical pain inflicted upon it.
'Roman let me take over.' Wolf said.
'N-no.' Roman replied. He didn't want wolf to experience it from first hand.
'I can take it. Let me take over.' Wolf said more sternly.
Right then Marcus used a silver knife to draw a deep cut on Roman's chest, right where his heart was. Roman threw his head back and screamed at the pain. The silver hissed and burned the open wound.
Seeing his pain, Wolf couldn't take it anymore and forcefully took over. Roman's body turned from blue to gold. Roman was thrown to the back of his mind, away from all the pain while Wolf took the attack with full force.
Marcus saw the change of colour in Roman's eyes and said, "Well look who has come out to play!"
Wolf growled in Marcus us face and snapped his teeth menacingly.
As Marcus continued with his ministrations on Wolf, Roman went farther back inside his mind. He used the darkness to wrap it like a blanket around him.
He kept thinking things like Trevor, his childhood and his parents. Everything good to banish the pain that was inflicted upon him.
He thought about Lana. Her touches, her kisses, her melodic voice. She was the only thing that kept him together.

💔 I am mentally exhausted as I write these chapters. I have to stop and heave a little and then continue.
It's hard to inflict pain upon characters that I have carefully built and cherished.
